Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Ministry Denies Loan Appeal Post, Claims X Account Hacked Amid Escalating India Tensions
Controversial social media post seeking international loans surfaces as India intensifies military operations; Moody’s warns of economic fallout for Pakistan

Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has denied responsibility for a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account that appealed to international partners for loans amid rising tensions with India. The ministry stated that the account was compromised and that they are working to have it deactivated.
The message, which has since been removed, said: “The Pakistani government is pleading with foreign partners for additional loans following significant losses caused by the enemy.” As the conflict intensifies and stocks plummet, we call on our foreign allies to assist in de-escalation. The country is asked to be unwavering.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of heightened military conflict between India and Pakistan. India launched “Operation Sindoor” in retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 civilians. In Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the operation targeted nine terrorist infrastructure locations.
In response, Pakistan vowed to deliver a “befitting reply,” leading to an exchange of missile and drone attacks. India reported intercepting multiple Pakistani missiles and drones aimed at military installations in Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot.
Moody’s Ratings issued a warning amid the intensifying crisis, stating that ongoing tensions with India might seriously impede Pakistan’s efforts to consolidate its budget and build its economy. According to the agency, Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves are insufficient to cover impending external debt obligations, and the continuous escalation may restrict its access to outside funding.
As the situation develops, both nations face mounting international pressure to de-escalate and engage in diplomatic dialogue to prevent further deterioration of regional stability.
