India Activates Water and Warfare Tactics: Salal, Baglihar Dams Opened as Operation Sindoor Hits Terror Hubs

In a swift response to cross-border terror, India opens key Chenab River dams and pounds nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK

In a significant escalation of regional tensions, India has opened the gates of the Salal Dam in Reasi and the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project in Ramban, both situated on the Chenab River. This move comes shortly after India suspended its commitments under the Indus Waters Treaty, a decision prompted by the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The dam gate openings are aimed at managing rising water levels due to heavy rainfall, but they also carry geopolitical implications amid strained India-Pakistan relations.

Concurrently, the Indian Armed Forces launched “Operation Sindoor,” a coordinated military strike targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation, conducted in the early hours of May 7, focused on dismantling infrastructure linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), groups accused of orchestrating attacks against India.

According to Indian officials, the strikes were precise and aimed solely at terrorist facilities, avoiding Pakistani military installations. However, Pakistan reported civilian casualties and condemned the attacks as acts of aggression, vowing retaliation.

The dual actions of opening dam gates and conducting military strikes signify a robust response from India to recent provocations. While the dam releases are officially attributed to flood management, the timing suggests a strategic message in the broader context of India-Pakistan tensions.

International observers have expressed concern over the escalating situation, urging both nations to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to prevent further deterioration of regional stability. The events highlight how precarious the peace in South Asia is and how quickly things could go out of hand without diplomatic intervention.

As the situation unfolds, the global community watches closely, hopeful for a de-escalation and a return to peaceful negotiations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
