Gujarati Edition of Book Released in Ahmedabad: More than 100 research papers presented at national seminar on Integral Humanism
Ahmedabad, Gujarat: Gujarat University hosted the launch of the Gujarati edition of Samarpan: Deendayal Upadhyaya, a book that explores the life, commitment and contributions of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. The university organised the launch at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Auditorium on its campus.
The event also featured a one-day national seminar on ‘Integral Humanism’, bringing together scholars, thinkers and senior academicians from different parts of the country.
Scholars Discuss Integral Humanism
The seminar provided a platform for academics and researchers to examine various aspects of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy. Participants presented more than 100 research papers during the different sessions.
The papers explored themes related to Integral Humanism, Indian culture, social harmony, nationalism, economic policy and human-centric development.
Author Calls for Publication of Research Papers
Author Chandan Kumar said that Samarpan: Deendayal Upadhyaya has already been translated into several Indian languages.
He suggested that Gujarat University should publish the research papers presented at the seminar. According to him, such a publication could help take Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s ideas and the philosophy of Integral Humanism to a wider audience.
Purushottam Rupala Highlights Indian Perspective
Former Union Minister Purushottam Rupala described Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya as one of modern India’s important thinkers.
Rupala said that in the early years after Independence, Upadhyaya questioned the limitations of Western political thought and developed a framework based on the Indian perspective.
He explained that Western political thought has produced different ideological approaches, including individualism, capitalism, socialism, communism and nationalism. In contrast, he said, Upadhyaya’s philosophy of Integral Humanism connects the individual, society and nation as interconnected parts of a larger whole.
Individual, Society and Nation as Complementary
Rupala further said that Integral Humanism does not view the interests of the individual and society or the individual and nation as inherently conflicting. Instead, it considers them complementary.
He also highlighted the Indian philosophical traditions of dialogue, mutual affection, universal brotherhood and global unity. He said these principles form an important part of the broader vision reflected in Upadhyaya’s philosophy.
Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Welcomes Scholars
Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jagdishbhai Joshi delivered the welcome address. He said the participation of scholars, thinkers and senior academicians from across India made the event a matter of pride for the university.
Dr. Joshi said the university would examine the research papers presented during the seminar’s sessions in detail. He added that the discussions would help students understand both Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s ideas and the wider foundations of Indian philosophy.
Focus on India 2047
Dr. Joshi also said that a young generation guided by Indian thought and values can contribute significantly to the vision of ‘India 2047 — A Great India, a Developed India.’
He thanked Prof. Dr. Hiteshbhai Patel, his team, faculty members, students and university staff for their efforts in organising the seminar.
The Vice-Chancellor said the addresses by the distinguished speakers offered participants fresh motivation, guidance and inspiration.

The Department of Political Science, Gujarat University organised the national seminar. Researchers and scholars from different parts of the country presented more than 100 papers focusing on Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy of Integral Humanism.
The discussions covered Indian culture, social harmony, nationalism, economic policy and human-centric development, creating a platform for academic exchange on Indian thought and Upadhyaya’s ideas.
