Cricketer Smriti Mandhana and composer Palash Muchhal confirm wedding cancellation, urge respect for their privacy.
New Delhi: Indian women’s cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana announced on Sunday that she has ended her relationship with music composer Palash Muchhal and cancelled their planned wedding. She shared a clear message on Instagram after weeks of rumours and asked everyone to respect her privacy. Muchhal also posted a similar message and said he wants to move forward.
Mandhana, 28, has played international cricket for almost ten years. She kept her personal life private until July 2024, when she confirmed her relationship with Muchhal. The couple met in 2019 through mutual friends in Mumbai’s creative circle. They planned to get married on November 23, 2025, in Sangli, Maharashtra.
Several Indian teammates attended the pre-wedding events, and Jemimah Rodrigues even paused her WBBL commitments to join the celebrations.
Wedding Day Turns Into a Medical Crisis
The wedding day started normally but changed suddenly in the morning. Mandhana’s father, Shriniwas Mandhana, developed a heart-related emergency and rushed to Sarvhit Hospital in Sangli. The family immediately stopped all celebrations and postponed the wedding. Soon after, Muchhal needed medical care for stress, exhaustion and a viral infection.
Doctors discharged Mandhana’s father on November 25 and confirmed that he was stable. However, the incident created emotional pressure on both families.
Social Media Activity Raises Questions
In the days after the emergency, Mandhana and Muchhal removed all wedding-related posts from their social media accounts. They deleted photos from pre-wedding events and a proposal video Muchhal filmed at DY Patil Stadium. Their friends, including teammates, also removed their posts. These actions increased public curiosity and led to a wave of online speculation.
Rodrigues stayed in India to support Mandhana and officially exited the WBBL season with Brisbane Heat. The team confirmed her early return and said she wanted to stand by her teammate after the wedding postponement.
As days passed, people on social media spread several unverified rumours, including accusations of infidelity against Muchhal. His family called these claims false and said the negativity added to the couple’s stress.
Mandhana Breaks Her Silence
On December 7, Mandhana addressed the situation directly. She wrote:
“I want to clarify that the wedding is called off. I request everyone to close this matter here.”
She said she normally avoids sharing personal matters but felt the need to stop the ongoing speculation. She also asked everyone to give both families the privacy they need. Mandhana said cricket remains her main focus:
“I believe my purpose is to represent India. I want to keep playing and winning trophies for my country for as long as I can.”
Muchhal Responds With His Own Statement
Soon after Mandhana’s message, Muchhal posted his own note. He wrote:
“I have decided to move on and step back from my personal relationship.”
He condemned the rumours circulating online and said they hurt him deeply. He described this period as the most difficult phase of his life and promised to face it with strength. Muchhal also said his team will take legal action against people spreading false and defamatory information. He thanked everyone who supported him during this time.
Families Ask for Space
Muchhal’s sister, singer Palak Muchhal, spoke briefly to the media. She said both families have gone through a very tough period and are trying to stay strong and positive.
After the statements, fans noticed that both Mandhana and Muchhal unfollowed each other on Instagram, although some old photos still remain.
Mandhana Shifts Focus to Cricket
Mandhana now looks forward to India’s packed 2026 cricket schedule. She appears determined to keep her attention on the sport. The entire episode shows how public figures often struggle to balance personal challenges with public expectations. Both families have asked for privacy as they move ahead.
