Technology Is Reshaping Journalism, Says NDTV Managing Editor Akhilesh Sharma
New Delhi: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at MERI College, Janakpuri, organised an expert session on “The Art of TV Anchoring and Career Opportunities” on Thursday. Akhilesh Sharma, Managing Editor of NDTV, delivered the keynote address. The session was organised under the guidance of Prof. Lalit Aggarwal, Vice President of MERI Group of Institutions.
Addressing BA (JMC) students, Sharma explained how technology has transformed journalism and highlighted the growing importance of mobile phones in news reporting. He discussed how digital technology has changed the way journalists gather, produce and present news.
Sharma said aspiring television anchors need confidence, clear pronunciation, effective voice modulation and strong presentation skills. He stressed that an anchor is more than a news reader and must understand the nature and sensitivity of a situation before presenting it to viewers. He also encouraged students to develop the habit of reading newspapers regularly and spoke about career opportunities in television anchoring.
The session ended with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which Sharma addressed students’ queries about journalism and television anchoring. Dr. S.K. Pandey, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, welcomed the speaker and guests. BA (JMC) Semester 3 students Kritika Gupta and Ridhima Tanwar moderated the session, while Prof. Sadanand Pandey proposed the vote of thanks.
