Raghav Chadha, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP, has pledged ₹3.25 crore from his MPLADS funds to assist Punjab’s ongoing flood relief operations. The announcement came on Wednesday, accompanied by a heartfelt video message in which the Rajya Sabha MP expressed solidarity with the flood-affected people of Punjab. He prayed for the safety of all residents, offered condolences for the tragic loss of over 30 lives, and emphasized the urgent need for immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation.

Breaking down the allocation, Chadha said that ₹2.75 crore will be directed towards the strengthening and repairing of flood protection embankments in Gurdaspur district, one of the worst-hit areas, to safeguard villages against future calamities. An additional ₹50 lakh has been set aside for relief and rehabilitation activities in Amritsar, another district severely impacted by the floods. “This is Punjab’s money, for Punjab’s people,” Chadha remarked, underlining his emotional commitment to ensuring that public resources directly benefit the state’s residents during this critical time.

Chadha described the situation as one of the worst floods Punjab has witnessed in decades, with heavy rains and overflowing rivers devastating entire regions. He pledged to raise the issue in Parliament, urging the Central Government to extend maximum financial and logistical support to the state. Highlighting the scale of the crisis, he said that Punjab cannot recover alone and needs the Centre’s urgent intervention.

Chadha extended heartfelt thanks to the Armed Forces, Punjab Police, disaster response teams, NGOs, civil society groups, and young volunteers for working around the clock to rescue people, distribute relief, and protect lives in the flood-affected regions. He emphasized that their efforts have provided much-needed relief to thousands of suffering families.

According to the Punjab government’s latest bulletin, 12 districts have been severely hit by the floods, while a total of 23 districts have been declared affected. Vast stretches of farmland have been submerged, homes destroyed, and essential infrastructure damaged. The floods have displaced thousands of people, forcing them into temporary shelters. Official figures confirm that at least 30 people have lost their lives, while countless livestock deaths have added to the economic losses faced by farmers and rural households.

Chadha concluded his appeal by reiterating that Punjab is in the middle of a grave humanitarian crisis, and that collective efforts by the state, Centre, and communities are vital to helping the state recover and rebuild.
