100-Day Climate Satyagraha Yatra Concludes at Rajghat, Prof. Chetan Solanki Calls for Responsible Consumption

Prof. Chetan Solanki concludes his 100-day Climate Satyagraha Yatra at Rajghat after covering 6,000 km across 51 cities and engaging with over 14,000 people

New Delhi: The 100-Day Climate Satyagraha Yatra led by Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki concluded at Rajghat on Thursday, returning to the same place from where the journey began on May 13. Before concluding the Yatra, Prof. Solanki visited Gandhi Smriti and paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

6,000 Km Journey Across 51 Cities

Over 100 days, Prof. Solanki travelled nearly 6,000 km across 51 cities, organising more than 130 programmes and directly engaging with over 14,000 people. He travelled in a specially designed solar-powered bus, which also served as his home throughout the Climate Satyagraha.

The Yatra focused on raising awareness about climate change, energy conservation, sustainable living and responsible consumption.

‘If the Earth Is Finite, Our Needs Must Also Be Limited’

Addressing the gathering at Rajghat, Prof. Solanki said climate change awareness has increased. However, people still need greater clarity about the actions required and the urgency to act.

“Science can grow, technology can grow and the economy can grow, but the size of the Earth and its resources cannot grow. If the Earth is finite, our needs must also be limited,” Prof. Solanki said.

His message reflects the core idea of the Finite Earth Movement. It calls for responsible consumption within the planet’s finite resources.

He stressed that climate action cannot remain limited to tree plantation, solar energy, electric vehicles and technological solutions. According to him, tackling the climate crisis also requires society to address rising consumption and rethink patterns of consumption.

Over 10,000 People Pledge to Avoid New Clothes

During the Yatra, the campaign encouraged people to make small but meaningful changes in their daily lives. More than 10,000 people pledged not to buy new clothes for one year.

According to the campaign’s estimates, the pledge could help save more than 200 million litres of water and prevent around 500,000 kg of CO₂ emissions.

‘The Climate Satyagraha Now Begins’

Prof. Solanki described the completion of the 100-day journey as a new beginning rather than the end of the campaign.

“The Yatra has ended, but the Climate Satyagraha now begins. The Earth is limited, so we must limit our needs,” he said.

Kumar Sachin, Nitish Sharma, Virendra Chouhan and Prakash Ishawe accompanied Prof. Solanki throughout the 100-day journey and supported the campaign as it reached different cities and communities.
