Operation Sindoor: India Targets Terror Camps in PoK, Closes Airports as Precautionary Measure

Historic Women Officers’ Contribution to Strategic Operation; Civil Aviation Affected Throughout North and West India
New Delhi: In a bold and strategic operation following Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir, India carried out Operation Sindoor, a targeted air strike on terror infrastructure well within Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The operation has apparently destroyed nine key terrorist hubs, including launchpads and training camps, killing approx. 50 terrorists.
The strikes, conducted between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM, were quick and precise, with minimum interference by civilians. As a routine security precaution, the Indian government and defence ministry have directed the shutdown of several civilian airports in northern and western India, causing mass flight cancellations.
Airports Closed Amid Strategic Security Measures
In order to provide safety to civilians and protect vital infrastructure in the event of any retaliatory strike, the following airports have been closed temporarily:
Dharamshala
Leh
Jammu
Srinagar
Amritsar
Chandigarh
As an additional measure, air travel in a portion of western India has also been affected. Flights to and from the following places have experienced disruptions:
Rajkot
Bhuj
Jamnagar
Bikaner
Passengers flying to or from these regions are requested to contact their respective airlines for rescheduling or alternative arrangements. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) remains in close consultation with security authorities and will update further as developments unfold.
A Clear Message: India Will Not Tolerate Terror
At a special joint press conference convened by the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and the Ministry of External Affairs, officials offered limited but considerable information on the operation. Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh led the briefing, a historic first in that it marked the participation of women military officers at such a high level in an official operation debrief.
Colonel Qureshi declared, “We attacked nine large installations on the border, including valuable terrorist training centers and launch sites. All of them were effectively neutralized. This was not retaliation but a strong warning in the future.”
