Eligible patients can now access free admission and specialised NICU and PICU care for newborns under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme at MatCare Maternity & Child Hospital, Varanasi.
Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh: MatCare Maternity & Child Hospital has launched the Ayushman Bharat Scheme at its Varanasi centre, bringing specialised healthcare services within reach of eligible patients. The initiative will provide eligible beneficiaries with free hospital admission, NICU care and PICU services for newborns, subject to the applicable scheme guidelines.
The launch is aimed at improving access to specialised maternal, paediatric and neonatal healthcare for families in Varanasi and nearby areas. The initiative is particularly significant for families requiring intensive medical support for premature, critically ill or high-risk newborns.
Ayushman Bharat Scheme at MatCare Varanasi
The scheme will allow eligible patients to access MatCare’s specialised Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) services. By extending these facilities under the Ayushman Bharat framework, MatCare aims to reduce financial barriers to specialised newborn treatment.
The launch event was attended by Dr. Dayashankar Mishra (Dyalu), Ayush Khadya Suraksha and Aushadhi Prashasan Rajya Mantri, Uttar Pradesh Sarkar, as the Chief Guest.
Senior members of the MatCare team, including Dr. R. V. Singh, Medical Superintendent; Dr. Sunil Yadav, Centre Head; Dr. Nimisha Singh, Head of Paediatrics; and Dr. Abhijeet Roy, Head of Neonatology, were also present at the event.
Specialised Care for Newborns
The availability of NICU and PICU services under the scheme is expected to provide additional support to families who require specialised treatment for newborns. MatCare’s Level III NICU is equipped to provide care for premature, critically ill and high-risk newborns, according to the hospital.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Dayashankar Mishra (Dyalu) said the launch represents an important step in making specialised healthcare more accessible to families in the region. He emphasised that every newborn should have access to safe and attentive care regardless of financial circumstances.

Dr. Abhijeet Roy, Head of Neonatology, said the hospital’s Level III NICU provides specialised treatment for premature, critically ill and high-risk newborns. He added that the implementation of the scheme would allow the hospital to extend this specialised care to more eligible families.
