Party threatens to inaugurate ₹1,000-crore flyover on its own, accuses BJP of delaying launch for political gain.
Jabalpur, June 10, 2025: A political face-off has intensified in Madhya Pradesh over the delayed inauguration of Jabalpur’s ₹1,000-crore flyover project the state’s longest, stretching 7.5 km. With 95% of the construction complete, the Congress party has accused the ruling BJP of stalling the project to score political points and has issued a four-day ultimatum to the administration.
If the flyover is not inaugurated by June 14, Congress leaders say they will hold a public inauguration ceremony on Saturday.
The project features a 300-meter cable-stayed section valued at ₹100 crore, along with eight approach roads. Though parts of the flyover are already in use, the full-scale launch has been pushed back multiple times.
Congress leader Saurabh Sharma blamed intra-party disputes within the BJP for the delay, calling it “credit politics at the cost of public convenience.” Meanwhile, BJP MP Ashish Dubey responded by saying certain “pending works” remain before the official opening can take place.
Designed to ease chronic traffic congestion in Jabalpur, the flyover has become a flashpoint in the broader political tug-of-war over public infrastructure rollouts a trend seen across several states in recent months.
