ED Cites Concerns of Evidence Tampering as K Kavitha’s Bail Plea Rejected

In a setback for BRS leader K Kavitha, her plea for temporary bail has been rejected by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court. The decision means Kavitha will remain in detention as per the court’s ruling, after Special Judge Kaveri Baweja turned down her request for interim release. Kavitha had sought bail citing her minor child’s upcoming exams as grounds for temporary release.
The denial of interim bail comes after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed Kavitha’s plea, expressing concerns that her release, even temporarily, could lead to tampering with evidence. The ED labeled Kavitha as one of the primary conspirators in the case and accused her of potential destruction of evidence relevant to the investigation.
Kavitha was arrested in Hyderabad on the evening of March 15th following a raid by an ED team at her residence and subsequent questioning regarding the Delhi excise policy case. Currently held at Tihar Jail, the ED has alleged Kavitha’s involvement in what they term as the “South Group” lobby, allegedly comprising liquor dealers aiming to influence the excise policy.
Notably, Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia are among other prominent politicians detained in connection with the same excise policy issue. The developments surrounding Kavitha’s denial of temporary bail mark a significant chapter in the ongoing legal proceedings related to the case.
