New Delhi: BJP today formally appointed Nitin Nabin (Nabin) as its new National President, making him the youngest person elected to this position at the age of 45 years old. Nabin was elected unopposed on January 19, 2026, and joins the increasing ranks of leaders in their 20s and 30s being appointed to high office in both the political and corporate worlds.

JP Nadda has been with the BJP for over a decade, and he has had an enormous impact on the development of the party and its policies and programs as both an active member of the party as well as an influential leader within the BJP. With his many years of experience in the BJP and as a political leader, he will leverage this extensive background to help guide the party into the next phase of growth.

Senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, elected Nitin Nabin as BJP’s youngest party president. He will bring more youth, experience, and talent into the leadership team for the 2024 elections.

The swearing-in ceremony at BJP headquarters in New Delhi began at 11:30 AM. PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, outgoing President JP Nadda, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, and other leaders attended. Before assuming office, Nabin visited key religious sites, including Jhandewalan Temple, Valmiki Temple, Hanuman Temple, and Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, reflecting the party’s motto of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”

Early Life and Political Entry

Born Nitin Nabin Sinha on May 23, 1980, in Patna, Bihar, Nabin comes from a political family. His father, the late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, was a veteran BJP leader and four-time MLA from Patna West. After his father’s death in 2006, Nabin paused further studies and entered politics, winning the 2006 by-election from Patna West (now Bankipur) with a large margin. This started his nearly two-decade-long political career, built on grassroots work. His mother is Meera Sinha.

Nabin’s net worth is reported at Rs 3.08 crore, according to his electoral affidavits. He currently holds Z-category security, including round-the-clock CRPF protection, based on an Intelligence Bureau threat assessment.

Political Career and Achievements

Nabin’s journey epitomizes BJP’s meritocracy. Starting out as an ABVP member, he went on to be the Bihar State President of the Bihar Youth Movement (BJYM), and then the National General Secretary for BJYM. While being the General Secretary of Bihar BJP and a National Executive member, Nabin exhibited tremendous organisational skills.

Nabin is a five-time MLA from Bankipur (winning in 2006, 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025), and as a member of the Bihar State Government held the portfolios of Road Construction, Urban Development and Housing, Law, and PWD. He was also responsible for BJP’s successful election campaign in Chhattisgarh, which resulted in BJP winning 54 seats.

On 14th December 2025, Nabin was appointed BJP’s National Working President. After this, he resigned from all ministerial posts in Bihar. He was later elected National President unopposed, following BJP’s Article 19 rules. These rules require 15 years as a primary member, four active terms in elected office, and support from 20 members across five states. The RSS provided informal guidance.

Philosophy: “No Shortcuts in Politics”

Nabin emphasizes hard work and patience. “There are no shortcuts in politics. It is a long-distance race. To go far, you must work patiently and with commitment,” he said, crediting BJP’s structure for allowing leaders to rise from booth-level positions to national office. His philosophy aligns with BJP’s anti-dynasty approach and contrasts with parties that favor political families. He calls his journey “from Nitin to Adhyakshji.”

Reactions from BJP Leaders

BJP MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe praised the party for nurturing leaders without dynastic privilege. Tamil Nadu BJP leader Ashvathaman Allimuthu called the appointment a pragmatic choice. Odisha Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo highlighted Nabin’s vision for nation-building, while Kompella Madhavi Latha noted his commitment to empowering grassroots workers. Ashok Saini said Nabin has maintained humility despite his rise. BJP officially stated: “Only in BJP can a Booth President rise to become National President.”

Challenges and Future Roadmap

National President Nabin has several immediate challenges ahead of him. Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in the states of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam & Puducherry. In addition to these short-term goals, Nabin’s long-term preparation includes the 2029 Lok Sabha elections; overseeing delimitation; enforcing a 33% quota for women; managing internal factions; and dealing with the opposition’s claims regarding election malpractice, pollution, etc.

Furthermore, as the National President of the BJP, Nabin has to focus on furthering Prime Minister Modi’s Viksit Bharat by 2047 vision by harnessing the energy of youth for strengthening the party’s position. Nabin is known as a low-profile, strategic leader. He is expected to strengthen BJP’s position in the coming years.
