Senior BJP leader and well-known businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead late Friday night right outside his home near Gandhi Maidan in Patna. CCTV footage reveals the chilling moment the attacker waited near the gate, then approached Khemka’s car, fired at him from close range, and escaped on a motorcycle.

Surveillance footage shows a man wearing a blue shirt and a black helmet standing near the gate of Khemka’s apartment. At around 11:40 PM, two cars pulled up—one driven by Khemka, and the other following close behind, carrying a man and a woman. Both vehicles paused as the security guard moved to open the iron gate.

At that point, the attacker rushed toward Khemka’s car, pulled out a gun, and fired at close range through the driver’s side window. He quickly fled on a motorcycle parked nearby. Moments later, the guard opened the gate and found Khemka unresponsive, slumped over the steering wheel. The man and woman in the second car got out, visibly shocked and shaken.

The incident took place near Hotel Panache, within the jurisdiction of the Gandhi Maidan Police Station, considered one of the most secure zones in Patna. Khemka was on his way home after spending the evening at the Bankipore Club, a part of his regular routine.

This marks the second major tragedy for the Khemka family. In 2018, Gopal Khemka’s son, Gunjan Khemka, was similarly shot dead outside his factory in Hajipur. Following that incident, Gopal stepped back from active business and political life, sold Magadh Hospital, and maintained a low profile—though he continued to be a respected and influential figure.

The murder has triggered strong political reactions. Khemka’s brother accused the police of reaching the scene almost three hours late. Opposition leaders like Tejashwi Yadav and Pappu Yadav called it another example of rising crime in Bihar and questioned the government’s control over law and order.

On the same night, a triple murder in Siwan added to the alarm. Three men were killed in a violent clash between two groups. Locals protested on the roads, demanding action. Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate Khemka’s murder, and the police are examining CCTV footage and questioning suspects.

The killing of Gopal Khemka, right at his doorstep and in front of security cameras, has shocked Patna. As investigations continue, the incident has raised serious concerns about public safety and policing in the state.
