In a major political development, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has stepped down from office, effective immediately, citing health concerns and the need to follow medical advice. His resignation, submitted on Monday, July 21, 2025, comes in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Indian Constitution, marking a significant moment in the nation’s political landscape.

In a dignified and deeply reflective letter addressed to the Hon’ble President of India, Dhankhar stated,

“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately.”

Expressing deep gratitude, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar lauded the unwavering support of the Hon’ble President, describing their association as “soothing and wonderful.” He also extended heartfelt appreciation to the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, acknowledging the invaluable guidance, collaboration, and mutual respect that defined his time in office.

Reflecting on his bond with the nation’s lawmakers, Dhankhar noted,

Dhankhar emphasized the honor he felt in serving the country and participating in its ascent on the global stage. As he steps down from the country’s second-highest constitutional post, he stated that he does so with “unwavering confidence in Bharat’s brilliant future.”
