Starting August 15, the government’s new toll plan brings big savings for commuters with a prepaid Fastag pass offering up to 200 trips annually
19 June 2025, New Delhi
In a move aimed at providing major relief to middle-class commuters and enhancing highway travel convenience, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the launch of the Fastag Annual Pass via social media platform X on Wednesday.
The initiative, set to roll out from August 15, 2025, allows users to make up to 200 trips across national highway toll plazas for just ₹3,000 per year. Though many anticipated an unlimited access model, the scheme is capped either by the number of trips (200) or one-year duration, whichever ends first.
What Is the Fastag Annual Pass?
- The pass does not offer unlimited travel, but allows a maximum of 200 trips or one year of toll coverage, depending on what occurs first.
- Each time a vehicle crosses a toll plaza, it counts as one trip. A round trip counts as two trips.
How to Get the Annual Pass?
The registration process is designed to be simple and digital:
- The system will first check the eligibility of your vehicle and Fastag.
- Users must pay ₹3,000 through the NHAI website or the Highway Travel mobile app.
- Once payment is confirmed, the Annual Pass will be activated on the registered Fastag.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Do I need to buy a new Fastag for this pass?
A: No. If your existing Fastag meets eligibility norms, it can be used for the annual pass.
Q: What if my Fastag is registered only via the vehicle’s chassis number?
A: The annual pass will only be issued to Fastags with a valid Vehicle Registration Number (VRN). Chassis number-only Fastags are not eligible.
Q: Will a round trip count as one or two trips?
A: A round trip is counted as two separate trips — one for going and one for returning.
Q: Will I receive notifications after activation?
A: Yes. Upon activation, an SMS alert will be sent to your registered mobile number.
The launch of the Fastag Annual Pass is expected to benefit millions of regular highway users, especially daily commuters and commercial vehicle owners. By reducing toll costs and simplifying payment, the initiative aligns with the government’s broader push toward digital mobility and ease of travel across India’s expanding highway network.
