Air India Crash: DNA Matches Confirm 210 Victims, 187 Bodies Returned to Families

Air India crash recovery continues with personal belongings traced and returned respectfully

In the aftermath of the devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, recovery and identification efforts have made significant progress. Gujarat Health Minister Rishikesh Patel announced on Thursday morning that DNA samples of 210 deceased passengers have been successfully matched. Of these, 187 bodies have been handed over to their respective families for final rites.

The health minister further added that DNA identification is still ongoing for the remaining victims, and authorities are working round the clock to complete the process. In parallel, efforts are being made to identify and return personal belongings found at the crash site, ensuring they reach the families with dignity and respect.

Efforts to Return Victims’ Belongings Underway

Gujarat’s Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi also took to social media platform X to express gratitude to local authorities and volunteers involved in the recovery and return process.

“My heartfelt salute to Ahmedabad Police, district administration, and social workers who have gone above and beyond in returning valuable belongings to grieving families. Their dedication has provided much-needed emotional relief,” the minister posted.

He confirmed that all items recovered from the crash site have been meticulously catalogued and stored securely. Each piece is being returned to families after proper verification and documentation. The process, overseen by the Civil Aviation Department, is being conducted in a transparent and respectful manner.

Lone Survivor Discharged from Hospital

On Wednesday, Dr. Rakesh Joshi, superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, shared a rare moment of hope amidst the tragedy — the only survivor, a passenger named Vishwas, has been discharged from the hospital and has returned home safely to reunite with his family.

As authorities continue to assist families in mourning and recovery, the tragedy stands as a sobering reminder of the importance of aviation safety and swift crisis response.
