Two Bhopal sisters arrested in an alleged job scam that turned into a sex racket and forced religious conversion case. Police invoke serious charges under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and MP Freedom of Religion Act; investigation underway as more victims may surface.
Bhopal: In a case that has shocked Madhya Pradesh, two sisters from Bhopal – Amreen and Afreen – and their associate Chandan Yadav were arrested on Monday. They are accused of running a sex racket and forcing religious conversion by pretending to offer domestic jobs to vulnerable women.
The arrests happened after two women filed complaints. They said they were promised a salary of Rs 10,000 per month, free accommodation, and a “high-profile lifestyle.” Instead, they were allegedly drugged, sexually assaulted, blackmailed, and pressured to convert to Islam.
The case was registered at Bag Sewania police station on Sunday night. It highlights how fake job offers, trafficking, and forced conversion can be connected in the state capital.
The Accused: From Abbas Nagar to Sagar Royal Villas
Amreen and Afreen earlier lived in a small slum area in Abbas Nagar. Recently, they had shifted to a luxury villa in Sagar Royal Villas near Ashima Mall, an upscale area of Bhopal. Police are investigating whether their sudden expensive lifestyle was funded by money earned from the alleged racket.
Chandan Yadav, who was reportedly living with one of the sisters and is said to have converted to Islam, was also arrested.
Three other accused – Bilal (the sisters’ brother), Yasir, and Chanu – are currently absconding. Police are searching for them.
The Victims’ Stories: Two Different Women, Similar Experiences
The case came forward after two women approached Bag Sewania police with separate but similar complaints.
- 21-year-old beautician from Mungeli, Chhattisgarh
She said she met the group through an acquaintance who had converted. In November 2025, the accused brought her to Bhopal, where Bilal allegedly drugged and raped her. In December 2025, they took her to Ahmedabad, where Yasir allegedly raped her. She has also accused Chandan Yadav of repeatedly assaulting her.
Then She said the accused forced her to attend parties in revealing clothes, made her consume alcohol and drugs, and pressured her to convert and marry a Muslim man.
- 30-year-old divorced mother from Bhopal
She said she met Amreen at Ashima Mall in 2024, where Amreen offered her a babysitting job with a salary of Rs 10,000 per month. While she was staying with the group, Chandan allegedly drugged and raped her. The accused later took her to Ahmedabad, where they allegedly exploited her further.
She said the accused pressured her to convert, wear a burqa, and offer namaz.
Both women said the accused blackmailed them with private photos and threatened to kill them or defame them publicly if they spoke out. Later, the two women connected with each other — one through Instagram — and decided to file complaints together.
How the Alleged Racket Worked
According to police and the FIR, the accused followed a planned method:
- The accused targeted financially weak women through friends or at public places like Ashima Mall.
- They offered attractive domestic jobs promising high salaries, free food, accommodation, and a “modern lifestyle.”
- After gaining the victims’ trust, they isolated them and introduced them to male associates.
- They allegedly mixed intoxicants in tea or forced the victims to consume alcohol and MD drugs to carry out assaults.
- They took the victims to pubs, lounges, and private parties to meet wealthy men.
- They pressured the victims to convert by making them read religious books, wear a burqa, offer prayers, and marry Muslim men with promises of a good family life.
- They blackmailed the victims using photos and videos, and in some cases, they moved them to Ahmedabad and possibly Mumbai for further exploitation.
Police Action and Investigation
Bag Sewania police registered two FIRs on February 23 under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to rape and criminal conspiracy, and under the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act for forced conversion.
On February 24, police arrested Amreen, Afreen, and Chandan Yadav and presented them in court. The court then sent them to police custody.
Police seized mobile phones from the three arrested persons. Amreen’s phone reportedly had several suspicious WhatsApp groups containing photos of young women.
Police are now investigating:
• Financial transactions to find out the source of the sisters’ sudden wealth.
• Digital data and travel records to check interstate connections.
• Statements from neighbours about frequent late-night activity at the Sagar Royal Villas house.
Legal Provisions Applied
The case includes serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rape and trafficking, along with the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, which punishes forced religious conversion. Under this law, a conviction can lead to up to 10 years in jail.
Larger Concerns: Safety of Women
This case shows how fake job offers, especially in informal sectors, can trap vulnerable women, including migrants from nearby states like Chhattisgarh. It also raises concerns about women’s safety in urban job markets.
Police have asked the public to stay calm and not give the case a communal angle while the investigation is ongoing.
Safety Advice for Job Seekers
• Always verify the employer through registered agencies or police verification.
• Do not accept jobs that promise a “high-profile lifestyle” without proper documents.
• Inform family or friends about your location and share live location when meeting someone new.
• Avoid staying at an employer’s house at the beginning. Choose verified PGs or hostels.
• If you are pressured into religious activities or feel unsafe, call the police helpline (100 or 112) immediately.
• Use official government job portals like National Career Service or MP Employment Exchange.
Current Status
Police have taken the three arrested accused into custody. Officers are actively trying to arrest the remaining three suspects. Investigators believe more victims may come forward as they examine the digital evidence.
Senior officers are supervising the investigation to determine whether the accused operated as part of a larger organised network.
Bag Sewania police have promised to conduct a fair and thorough investigation. As the case continues, it sends a serious warning that organised exploitation can hide behind attractive job offers.
Women’s rights groups and police are calling for greater awareness and stricter monitoring of informal job offers in Bhopal and nearby areas. The focus now remains on justice for the survivors and uncovering the full extent of the alleged racket.
