13 August 2025, New Delhi
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed heightened security and preventive measures across all zoos, bird sanctuaries, national parks, wetlands, and cow shelters in the state amid concerns over a potential outbreak of bird flu. According to an official statement, he instructed immediate sanitisation of zoo premises in line with central and state guidelines, including blow-torching where necessary, and mandatory health checks for all animals and birds.
The Chief Minister stressed that animal feed should be provided only after thorough dietary inspections, and staff duties inside enclosures must be allocated based on risk levels to ensure complete safety compliance. He further ordered specialised training for zoo staff to detect and prevent the spread of avian influenza, along with the provision of PPE kits and safety gear.
Adityanath also instructed strict monitoring of poultry farms across the state as per prescribed standards, with stringent control on the movement of poultry products. The Health Department has been tasked with studying the possible impact of bird flu on humans and submitting a detailed report on measures to prevent its transmission to the public.
In addition, the Chief Minister called for continuous coordination with the Central Zoo Authority, National Centre for Disease Control, the Union Health Ministry, the Fisheries and Dairy Department, and the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (Bareilly) to ensure timely execution of their recommendations.
