Delhi: HRDS INDIA has expressed concern over the custody of RSS ideologue and political commentator T.G. Mohandas in connection with allegedly controversial remarks about protesters at Jantar Mantar. The organisation questioned the timing and manner of the police action and stressed that the law should be applied equally and impartially.
Organisation Clarifies Its Stand on Controversial Statements
HRDS INDIA said it does not support inflammatory, threatening or irresponsible statements made by anyone. At the same time, it maintained that any legal action must follow established law and due process. The organisation said political or ideological differences should not become a basis for selectively targeting individuals.
Aji Krishnan Calls for Consistent Legal Action
HRDS INDIA Founder-Secretary Aji Krishnan said the organisation does not support statements that promote violence, threaten people or go beyond the limits of responsible public discourse. However, he stressed that the same legal standards must apply to everyone.
He said that if complaints have been filed against T.G. Mohandas, they should be investigated fairly and in accordance with due process. He also argued that allegations of threats or inflammatory remarks involving people from other political or ideological groups should receive the same level of urgency and seriousness.
Krishnan said selective enforcement of the law could weaken public confidence in the rule of law.
Focus on Democratic Rights and Kerala’s Other Issues
The organisation also highlighted that peaceful protests and filing complaints are legitimate democratic rights. It urged the government and law enforcement agencies to remain neutral and ensure that political or ideological differences do not influence police action.
HRDS INDIA also expressed concern that the controversy could divert attention from other pressing issues in Kerala. These include flood relief operations and protests by coastal communities.
The organisation urged the Kerala government and police to ensure transparency and follow due process. It also called for equal application of the law. At the same time, HRDS INDIA stressed the need to protect democratic freedoms and legitimate political expression.
