The Election Commission of India (ECI) is anticipated to reveal the schedule for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections today.

This announcement comes after extensive discussions with various political parties, including those in Jammu and Kashmir. The culmination of the ECI’s nationwide survey, including a crucial visit to J&K, suggests that the dates for the Lok Sabha polls will soon be made public.

In a significant development, the Election Commission appointed Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu as new Election Commissioners on Thursday. This appointment has heightened expectations that the election schedule will be formally announced soon.
Both the Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been actively preparing for the elections. The Congress has unveiled the names of 82 candidates thus far, while the BJP recently released its second list, featuring a total of 250 candidates.
In the the past, the 2019 general elections were officially announced on March 10. The multi-phase elections spanned from April 11 to May 19, with the results declared on May 23, ultimately reinstating the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to power, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm.
