Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again found himself at the center of global attention, as political leaders from several countries intensify efforts to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize. The campaign, which includes high-profile endorsements, is being seen as both a diplomatic gesture and a political statement ahead of his ongoing second term.

Leading the charge is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who recently hand-delivered a formal nomination letter to Trump during a private dinner at the White House. Netanyahu praised Trump’s role in brokering peace agreements in the Middle East, calling him “fully deserving” of the honor.

Support has also come from several quarters across the globe, including Native American leaders, U.S. Congress members, and political representatives from countries such as Pakistan, Rwanda, and the United Arab Emirates. They credit Trump with diplomatic achievements like the Abraham Accords, which normalized ties between Israel and multiple Arab nations during his first term.

Trump has long expressed a desire to win the prestigious peace award. His administration frequently highlighted his role in easing tensions between India and Pakistan, promoting dialogue in war-torn African regions, and encouraging ceasefire initiatives in Gaza. Speaking at a recent rally, Trump remarked, “No one has done more for peace in the last two decades — and yet, the recognition is always delayed.”

Despite growing international backing, critics remain skeptical. Many point to Trump’s polarizing domestic policies, confrontational rhetoric, and controversial foreign stances as factors that conflict with the Nobel Committee’s standards for the prize — which emphasizes long-term peace, diplomacy, and human rights.

The Nobel Committee, which receives hundreds of nominations annually, maintains a strict policy of confidentiality and only reveals shortlisted candidates decades later. As of now, any nomination submitted will be considered for the 2026 Peace Prize, since the deadline for 2025 has already passed.

Still, for Trump and his supporters, the nomination itself is a symbolic victory — reinforcing his image as a global dealmaker and influential peace negotiator. Whether or not the Nobel is ultimately awarded, the effort reflects a strategic push to solidify his international legacy amid a deeply divided domestic landscape.
