India beat Sri Lanka in the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup final in Dubai to win their record-extending 8th title in the tournament’s history
New Delhi/Dubai: India won the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup after beating Sri Lanka in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 13. The victory gave India their record-extending eighth Women’s Asia Cup title and avenged their defeat against Sri Lanka in the 2024 final.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s team produced a strong all-round performance. India’s batters set a challenging target before the bowlers and fielders shut down Sri Lanka’s chase.
India Set 184-Run Target in Women’s Asia Cup Final
India won the toss and chose to bat first. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave India a flying start and put Sri Lanka under pressure from the opening over.
The pair raced to 57 runs without losing a wicket during the powerplay. Verma continued her attacking approach and reached her half-century from just 24 balls. Her quick fifty became the fastest half-century in Women’s T20 Asia Cup history.
Mandhana also played an aggressive innings. She reached her fifty from 35 balls and helped India maintain a high scoring rate.
India reached 98 without losing a wicket at the halfway stage. The strong opening partnership gave the middle order enough freedom to attack during the final overs.
India eventually posted 183 for 5 in 20 overs. Sri Lanka therefore needed 184 runs to win the Women’s Asia Cup final.
India Bowlers Dominate Sri Lanka Chase
Sri Lanka struggled to match India’s batting intensity during the chase. India’s spinners controlled the middle overs and picked up wickets at regular intervals.

The 2026 victory further strengthened India’s dominance in the Women’s Asia Cup. India have now won eight of the 10 editions since the tournament began in 2004.
India have also reached every final in the competition’s history. Their only defeats came against Bangladesh in 2018 and Sri Lanka in 2024.
The tournament started with a 50-over format before switching to T20Is in 2012. India have won titles in both formats and remain the most successful team in Women’s Asia Cup history.
The latest victory also completed India’s response to the 2024 final defeat. Sri Lanka had stunned India in that match to claim their maiden Women’s Asia Cup title. India now hold the upper hand again.
Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana Lead India’s Batting
Shafali Verma emerged as one of India’s biggest match-winners in the final. Her rapid fifty gave India the momentum they needed at the start of the innings.
Her performance also continued a strong tournament. Verma recorded her third half-century of the competition and produced another important knock in the knockout stage.
Mandhana complemented Verma perfectly. Her 35-ball fifty kept India’s scoring rate high and gave India a strong foundation for the final overs.
Sree Charani then played a crucial role with the ball. Her timely wickets prevented Sri Lanka from building a successful chase.
The contributions from Verma, Mandhana, Charani and India’s fielders helped India complete a convincing team performance.
What India’s 8th Asia Cup Title Means
India’s latest Women’s Asia Cup title adds to a strong period for the women’s team. India won their maiden ODI World Cup title in November 2025 after beating South Africa in the final in Navi Mumbai.
The team now has two major titles within a year. The Asia Cup triumph also provides a positive response after India’s group-stage exit from the T20 World Cup earlier in 2026.
