Kanpur Lamborghini Crash: Tobacco Tycoon’s Son Injures Six; FIR Leaves Out Driver’s Name, Sparks Allegations of Favoritism

High-speed Lamborghini crash in Kanpur injures six. Son of tobacco tycoon identified as driver, but name missing from FIR amid alleged police leniency.

New Delhi: A high-speed Lamborghini, allegedly driven by Shivam Mishra, son of a well-known tobacco businessman, caused a major accident on Kanpur’s VIP Road, injuring six people. The incident triggered public anger after police registered an FIR without naming the driver, leading to allegations of special treatment. Dramatic scenes at the police station, involving private bouncers, further fueled the controversy.

Incident Details and How the Crash Happened

The accident took place at around 3:15 PM on February 8, 2026, near Rev-3 Mall in the upscale Gwaltoli area of Kanpur. The Delhi-registered Lamborghini Revuelto, a supercar with nearly 1,000 horsepower, went out of control at high speed.

The car first hit an auto-rickshaw, injuring its driver. It then crashed into a parked Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle and struck several pedestrians before finally smashing into an electric pole.

According to eyewitnesses, the impact threw Vishal, who was on the Bullet, almost 10 feet into the air. Two other boys were also flung onto the footpath. Pedestrians Taufiq and Sonu Tripathi were hit as well. Taufiq suffered serious leg injuries after being thrown several meters away.

Angry local residents quickly surrounded the Lamborghini and forced the driver to stay inside the car. Soon after, private bouncers accompanying Shivam Mishra arrived and allegedly pushed back the crowd forcefully, increasing tension at the spot.

Driver’s Background and Family History

Shivam Mishra is the son of K K Mishra, a prominent tobacco trader and owner of Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, a company that supplies tobacco to major gutkha manufacturers.

The family has faced scrutiny earlier. In February 2024, Income Tax raids on their properties reportedly uncovered over ₹100 crore in tax evasion. Officials also found a collection of luxury cars at their Delhi residence, including a ₹16 crore Rolls-Royce Phantom, along with a Lamborghini, Ferrari, and McLaren, together valued at over ₹60 crore.

After the crash, Shivam Mishra claimed he felt dizzy and suffered a seizure, which caused him to lose control of the car. Police are now verifying this claim by checking his medical records and history.

Injuries and Immediate Action

Six people were injured in the accident, suffering fractures, bruises, and serious leg injuries. All the injured, including the driver, were taken to a private hospital, where their condition was reported to be stable. No deaths were reported, though locals said the accident could have been far more deadly due to the car’s speed.

Police from Gwaltoli station reached the spot quickly, rescued Mishra from the angry crowd, gave first aid, and seized the damaged Lamborghini. Authorities later towed the car to the police station.

Police Station Scenes and FIR Controversy

Tension increased at the police station, where the Lamborghini was covered with a sheet and guarded by private bouncers. Families of the injured and local residents objected strongly, accusing the bouncers of misbehaving inside the police station while officers allegedly failed to stop them.

This led to chaos and protests, with people alleging delays in police action and pressure to settle the matter privately.

Police registered an FIR based on complaints from victims, including Sonu Tripathi. However, the FIR did not name Shivam Mishra, even though witnesses and video footage clearly identified him as the driver.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava confirmed that the FIR had been registered but did not explain why the driver’s name was missing. He said police would take further action after completing the investigation.

Official Statements and Public Reaction

DCP Srivastava said the crash appeared to be an accident caused by loss of control, with over-speeding suspected at first glance.

Victim Sonu Tripathi described the incident, saying, “We were standing by the roadside when the car hit us. It crushed our Bullet, and Vishal was thrown far away due to the impact.”

Public anger has grown rapidly, both on the streets and on social media. Many people accused the police of going easy on the driver because of his family’s wealth and influence. On X (formerly Twitter), users shared videos of the crash site, injured victims, and scenes from the police station, demanding accountability.

Bigger Questions and Ongoing Investigation

The incident has raised serious concerns about road safety, especially involving powerful individuals driving high-performance vehicles. It has also revived memories of past high-profile accidents in Uttar Pradesh, leading to calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws.

Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash. No arrests have been made so far, and authorities say more details will be shared as the probe moves forward.
