1,500 Smart Houses in J&K Highlight HRDS India’s Humanitarian Housing and Environmental Initiatives
New Delhi: HRDS India (Highrange Rural Development Society), a registered NGO established in 1995, continues to support tribal and rural communities across India. Under the leadership of President Srimath Swami Atma Nambi and Founder & Secretary Aji Krishnan, the organisation works to provide shelter, livelihoods, dignity and self-reliance to marginalised communities.
For nearly three decades, HRDS India has implemented programmes in education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, livelihood generation and environmental sustainability. Its major initiatives include Sadhgraha for tribal housing, Karshaka for organic farming, Jwalamukhi for women’s empowerment, Ekagrah for skill development and education, and Niramaya for Ayurveda and yoga-based healthcare.
The organisation currently works across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Odisha, Rajasthan, Manipur, Jharkhand, Assam and Tripura. Through its Sadhgraha programme, HRDS India provides durable and furnished homes to tribal families while using environmentally sustainable materials and faster construction techniques.
HRDS India also promotes economic independence through organic farming, DDU-GKY-linked skill development programmes and women-led micro-enterprises. In Manipur, the organisation plans to support tribal and homeless families affected by displacement and conflict by providing safe housing and integrated development support.
The NGO has also strengthened its environmental and sanitation initiatives through collaborations with organisations such as Japan-based SMI Inc. These partnerships focus on waste management, recycling and waste-processing projects. HRDS India has also signed an MoU with Calculus Group to develop AI-based sanitation solutions, IoT-enabled infrastructure and digital ecosystems for underserved rural communities.
As part of a major humanitarian initiative, HRDS India is constructing 1,500 free three-bedroom prefabricated “Smart Houses” across Jammu and Kashmir. The organisation will provide these homes to families affected by floods, landslides, damage linked to Operation Sindoor and certain cases of terrorism.
Under MoUs signed with the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir, beneficiaries will receive modern homes along with 15-year life insurance coverage for family members. The initiative will also provide regular health check-ups, digital connectivity and free maintenance and repainting for several years.
HRDS India has already laid foundation stones in several districts and plans to complete construction within months of starting work. The organisation will fully fund the project, ensuring that neither the government nor the beneficiaries bear any construction cost.

HRDS India operates as an independent and non-political organisation. It is registered with NITI Aayog, eligible to receive CSR funds, tax-exempt under Section 80G and FCRA-compliant for foreign contributions. The organisation receives support through voluntary donations and philanthropic assistance and continues to seek partnerships for its welfare and rehabilitation programmes.
