Amazon Launches ₹400 Million‑Litre Water Replenishment Project to Save Delhi’s Yamuna Watershed

Partnering with Hasten Regeneration and NGOs, Amazon aims to recharge groundwater and restore river ecosystems as part of its global water stewardship goals

6 June 2025, New Delhi

Amazon unveiled a landmark water replenishment project targeting the Yamuna River watershed upstream of Delhi. With a goal to rejuvenate over 400 million litres of water annually, this project is backed by Hasten Regeneration and supported by NGOs such as Arpan Seva Sansthan and Clear Water Dynamics.

The initiative, announced at the inaugural Amazon Water Dialogues 2025 held at the India Habitat Centre, combines the restoration of existing structures check dams and ponds with the construction of modern water-saving systems like recharge shafts and percolation pits. New vegetation will be planted around these installations to reduce erosion, improve soil moisture, and enhance local landscapes.

Strategic Vision:
Amazon India & Australia VP Abhinav Singh explained that this “watershed‑level” approach is aimed at capturing monsoon runoff, recharging aquifers, and most importantly, empowering local communities to manage and safeguard water resources.

Community Impact:
MP Sasmit Patra emphasized the revival of traditional water harvesting methods alongside modern solutions, highlighting the critical need to recharge the city’s diminishing groundwater levels.

This project is a key part of Amazon’s wider water stewardship programme in India. Since 2020, the company has invested in lake restoration efforts in Mumbai and Bengaluru, benefiting more than 1 million people. It also aligns with Amazon’s target to return more water to communities than it consumes in its operations by 2027.

By merging traditional knowledge and modern engineering through infrastructure rehab, ecosystem restoration, and community engagement Amazon’s initiative offers a holistic model for long-term water sustainability in urban India.
