To match the theme “Fashion Is Art,” the entrance to the Metropolitan Museum of Art was transformed into a living, immersive installation. As a result, it blurred the lines between couture and fine art.
Designers Behind the Transformation
The main designer behind this transformation was Raúl Àvila. He worked with filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and designer Derek McLane to create the look of the event. They took inspiration from the beautiful and well-designed gardens of Northern Italy during the Renaissance period, giving the event a classic and artistic feel.
Instead of the usual red carpet, the team created a hand-painted path that looked like a calm garden walkway. It had soft beige and green colours, making it look like a natural stone path. To make it even more beautiful, the carpet was decorated with hanging wisteria flowers in purple, pink, and white shades. These details made the space look more real and slightly dreamy, turning it into something that felt like an art exhibition rather than just an entry walkway.

As stars arrived, the garden-inspired entrance perfectly complemented their outfits. Celebrities embraced the theme, wearing looks that mirrored fine art, from hand-painted silk gowns to architectural silhouettes reminiscent of classical sculptures.
