New Delhi: Prabhas’ new Telugu film The Raja Saab made a solid start at the box office, earning Rs 54.15 crore worldwide on its opening day, January 9, 2026. Directed by Maruthi Dasari and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad under People Media Factory, the film marks Prabhas’ move into a lighter genre that mixes horror, romance, and comedy.

The total collection also includes Rs 9.15 crore from paid previews on January 8, showing strong excitement before release. In India, the film earned around Rs 45 crore net, with gross figures close to Rs 54.4 crore. Overseas markets contributed Rs 26 crore, once again proving Prabhas’ strong international fan base after his successful films in 2025.

Regional Performance and Advance Booking Response

The Telugu version led the collections, with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (AP/TS) together contributing Rs 56.55 crore gross. The Hindi dubbed version collected Rs 6.15 crore net, while Tamil Nadu added Rs 1.56 crore gross and Karnataka brought in Rs 8.08 crore gross. Collections from Kerala and other regions remained limited.

Advance bookings crossed Rs 50 crore worldwide in pre-sales (excluding Telangana). On Day 1, the Telugu version recorded an overall occupancy of 57.16%. Cities like Vizag saw very high occupancy at 82%, while Hindi markets such as Kolkata recorded lower occupancy at 11%. The film released on over 3,000 screens, benefiting from the post-holiday weekend release.

Cast, Crew, and Story Highlights

In the film, Prabhas plays Raja Saab, a young royal heir dealing with his legacy while facing supernatural elements. The cast includes Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, Sanjay Dutt, Riddhi Kumar, Brahmanandam, and Boman Irani.

Music is composed by Thaman S, with the title track playing a key role in promotions. Karthik Palani handled cinematography, while editing was done by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao. The film has a runtime of 183 minutes.

Audience Reaction and Critical Response

Critical reviews for The Raja Saab have been mixed. While many praised Prabhas’ screen presence and comic timing, critics pointed out that the storyline feels predictable and that the horror elements are not very strong.

Audience response, especially in Telugu-speaking regions, has been more positive. Family audiences appreciated the film’s light-hearted and entertaining tone. On social media platform X, #TheRajaSaab trended throughout the day, with fans celebrating Prabhas’ mass appeal, even as some viewers described the film as formula-driven.

Comparison With Other Films

The film’s opening is better than the Hindi Day 1 collection of Baahubali: The Beginning, but it stands as Prabhas’ third-lowest opener overall. While Dhurandhar starring Ranveer Singh had a massive opening recently, The Raja Saab has managed to hold its ground, particularly in South Indian markets, despite competition.

What This Means for Telugu Cinema

With a reported budget of Rs 200–250 crore, the Day 1 performance indicates a promising theatrical run for Prabhas. After a mixed year in 2025, the strong opening reinforces his box office pull.

For Telugu cinema, the film sets a positive tone for 2026, highlighting the continued strength of star-driven films at the box office.

As Day 2 collections begin to come in, the film’s long-term success will depend largely on word-of-mouth. For ongoing updates on The Raja Saab box office numbers, Prabhas’ latest movie review, and detailed earnings reports, keep an eye on official tracking platforms like Sacnilk.
