Rakul Preet Singh denies links to alleged illegal foreign remittances and benami property, saying she has paid taxes since the age of 20
New Delhi: Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh has responded to recent media reports about an alleged Income Tax Department search. The actress issued a detailed statement on social media, calling the reports “false, malicious and speculative.” The reports had linked her name to an alleged investigation into financial irregularities.
Rakul clarified that the Income Tax Department did not conduct the search against her and strongly denied any involvement in illegal foreign remittances.
‘I Have Been Paying Taxes Since I Was 20’
In her statement, Rakul said she comes from an Armed Forces background and built her career in the film industry through her own hard work, without a “godfather.”
She said she has always followed the law and has been paying her taxes since she was 20.
Rakul also denied any involvement in illegal foreign remittances, either personally or through any production house. She further rejected reports claiming that she owns any “benami” property.
According to the actress, no one holds any benami property in her name, either in India or abroad.
She also said that no one has ever gifted her an expensive property and that she does not accept such high-value gifts on principle.
IT Department Conducted Searches at 12 Locations
On September 28, the Mumbai Income Tax Department reportedly conducted searches at 12 locations as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities.
According to media reports, the investigation focuses on suspected overseas fund transfers allegedly made in the name of financing film projects. Officials reportedly examined financial documents, transaction records and information related to alleged foreign transactions.
Reports also mentioned locations linked to film producer Vashu Bhagnani and Panorama Studios.
However, the investigation remains ongoing, and the mere fact that the Income Tax Department conducted searches does not establish criminal wrongdoing by any individual.
Rakul Criticises Media Reports
Rakul also criticised the way some media outlets reported the matter. She said sensationalising allegations without verifying facts can damage a person’s reputation and livelihood.
The actress urged media organisations and individuals who published what she described as false and speculative reports to retract them and issue clarifications based on verified facts.
Rakul to Star in ‘Ramayana’
On the work front, Rakul Preet Singh will next appear in Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited film Ramayana. She will reportedly play the role of Shurpanakha. The film also stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash in key roles.
