Akriti Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw End Six-Month Engagement

Akriti Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw have mutually ended their engagement six months after exchanging rings, citing different goals and circumstances for their future

New Delhi: Social media influencer and actor Akriti Agarwal has announced that she and cricketer Prithvi Shaw have mutually decided to end their engagement.

The couple exchanged rings on March 8, 2026, making the announcement roughly six months after their engagement. The latest development comes after a similar round of relationship rumours in July, which Akriti denied at the time.

Akriti Agarwal confirms the separation

Akriti shared the news on Instagram on September 17, saying she and Shaw had decided to part ways because of different goals and circumstances for their future. She described the decision as mutual and said that they still care deeply for each other.

Akriti also asked people to respect their privacy and avoid making assumptions about the reasons behind the decision. She did not accuse Shaw of any wrongdoing or give any further details about what led to the separation.

How the relationship began

Akriti and Shaw first attracted public attention as a couple during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in 2025. Their appearances together continued, including at the wedding of Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandhok in Mumbai in early 2026.

By March, the relationship had moved from social media speculation to an official engagement.

Akriti, who originally comes from Lucknow and later moved to Mumbai, has built a following of more than three million on Instagram. She has also entered acting and made her film debut in Trimukha, which starred Sunny Leone.

Their engagement in March 2026

Shaw and Akriti exchanged rings on March 8, 2026, in an intimate ceremony attended by close friends and family. Shaw announced the engagement on Instagram with photographs from the occasion.

He marked the moment with a cricket-themed caption about going “from sixes on the field to a lifetime of hits off it” and called Akriti his “perfect innings.” His IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals, also congratulated the couple.

A rocky patch: the July 2026 “cheated” post controversy

The relationship faced its first major public controversy in July. Akriti shared a cryptic Instagram Story saying she had been cheated on multiple times and suggesting that rumours about an unnamed person were true.

She did not name Shaw in the post.

However, social media users quickly connected the message to the cricketer, leading to widespread speculation that the couple had separated and that Shaw had cheated on her.

At the time, there was no confirmation that the post referred to Shaw.

How that controversy was cleared up — for a while

Akriti soon addressed the speculation herself. She said she had never announced a separation, had not named Shaw in the original post and remained engaged to him.

She also said the assumptions had gone beyond what she actually posted and stressed that she and Shaw were still happy together. That clarification effectively ended the breakup rumours circulating at the time.

The couple also continued to show affection publicly. As recently as September 9, Akriti and Shaw were interacting warmly on Instagram, with Akriti calling him a “goofball” and Shaw replying with “Miss you” and a heart emoji.

What Akriti said this time

The September announcement carries a different weight because Akriti has now directly confirmed that the engagement has ended.

She said the couple had reached the decision together after recognising that they had different goals and circumstances for their future. She also indicated that the decision did not erase the care they have for each other.

Importantly, Akriti did not connect the separation to the July controversy or repeat any of the earlier cheating rumours. She instead asked the public to give both of them privacy while they deal with the change in their personal lives.

Prithvi Shaw’s side: silence so far

As of this report, Prithvi Shaw has not issued a separate public statement about the end of the engagement.

Shaw has remained in the spotlight for his cricket career as well.

He made his India Test debut in 2018 with a century against the West Indies, but he later went through a difficult period, including being dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad and going unsold at the IPL 2025 auction.

He returned to Delhi Capitals through the 2026 auction after initially going unsold. & last represented India in 2021.

Where things stand for both of them now

For now, Akriti and Shaw have ended their engagement and appear to be moving forward separately. Akriti has made clear that the decision was mutual, while Shaw has yet to publicly comment.

Their July controversy showed how quickly social media speculation can shape a story around a public couple. This time, however, Akriti herself has confirmed that their engagement has ended.
