CBSE Class 12 Result 2026: When Will CBSE Declare Class 12 Results and How Can Students Check Scores Online?

CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 updates: Know how to check scores online, DigiLocker details, new On-Screen Marking system and latest CBSE result news

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education has not yet declared the CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 as of May 12, 2026. Nearly 19 lakh students and their families across India are waiting anxiously for the results and constantly checking official websites for updates. While students expected the results around this time, the delay is linked to a major change in CBSE’s evaluation system this year. For the first time, the board has introduced a digital On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 answer sheet evaluation, changing how India’s biggest school board checks exams.

CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 Is Still Pending

CBSE officials have confirmed that the Class 12 results are unlikely to be released before May 15, 2026.

The Class 12 board exams were conducted from February 17 to April 10, 2026. All exams took place in a single shift starting at 10:30 AM, and the final paper was Legal Studies.

Although the exams ended weeks ago, the evaluation process is still continuing.

Students from West Asian countries whose exams were cancelled will also receive their results along with all other students.

Nearly 18.6 Lakh Students Appeared for the Exams

This year, 18,59,551 students appeared for the CBSE Class 12 board examinations.

Among them:
• 10,27,552 were male students
• 8,31,999 were female students

The exams covered 120 subjects and were conducted across 7,574 centres in India and abroad.

The massive number of students makes the result declaration one of the biggest academic events in the country every year.

Once results are announced, lakhs of students, parents and schools are expected to access the websites at the same time.

What Is the New On-Screen Marking System?

One of the biggest reasons behind this year’s delay is CBSE’s new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

CBSE officially introduced the system through a notice issued on February 9, 2026, to all affiliated schools.

Under the new process:

• Answer sheets are scanned after examinations
• The copies are converted into digital files
• Teachers check the answer sheets online through a secure portal
• Marks are entered directly on screen
• Total marks are calculated automatically

Earlier, teachers manually checked physical answer sheets and added marks by hand.

With OSM, CBSE aims to reduce calculation mistakes and speed up the evaluation process in the future.

However, CBSE has clarified that only Class 12 exams are following this digital system in 2026. CBSE Class 10 Board Examination answer sheets are still being checked physically.

Why Did CBSE Introduce OSM?

According to CBSE, the new system offers several advantages.

The board says OSM will:
• Reduce totalling errors
• Decrease rechecking requests
• Improve accuracy
• Allow teachers from different locations to participate
• Reduce paper handling
• Make the process more environmentally friendly

Under the old system, teachers had to travel to evaluation centres and manually handle large bundles of answer sheets.

Errors in mark calculation often forced students to apply for verification and re-evaluation later. CBSE believes digital evaluation will reduce such problems.

CBSE Denied Reports of Technical Problems

Reports recently claimed that technical glitches in the OSM system were slowing down evaluation.

However, Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj rejected those reports. He said the evaluation process is running smoothly and described claims about technical issues as incorrect.

Even so, result dates have continued shifting, and many reports now suggest that CBSE may release the results between May 15 and May 23, 2026.

How to Check CBSE Class 12 Result 2026

Once the result is released, students can check it through several official platforms.

Official Websites

Students can visit:
• CBSE Results Portal
• CBSE Official Website

Students will need:
• Roll Number
• School Number
• Admit Card ID
• Date of Birth

DigiLocker

DigiLocker is expected to remain the most stable platform during heavy traffic. Students are advised to activate their DigiLocker accounts before result day.

Digital marksheets available on DigiLocker are officially valid for college admissions and counselling.

UMANG App

Students can also use the UMANG app to access their results.

SMS Service

CBSE also provides an SMS option.
Students can type:
CBSE12 followed by their roll number and send it to 7738299899.

What Happens After the Results?

If You Pass

College admission processes begin almost immediately after the results are declared.
Students should prepare college shortlists and admission plans in advance instead of waiting until result day.

If You Get a Compartment

Students who fail in one subject may receive a compartment.
CBSE conducts compartment exams in July, allowing students to clear the subject without repeating the entire academic year.

If You Want Re-Evaluation

Students unhappy with their marks can apply for verification and re-evaluation after the results are announced.
With the OSM system, this process may become faster because answer sheets are already digitally stored.

The Bigger Change Behind CBSE Result 2026

The CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 is not just another result declaration. This year marks a major transition in India’s school education system.

For the first time, nearly 19 lakh answer sheets were evaluated digitally instead of through traditional paper-based checking.

CBSE hopes the new system will eventually make evaluation faster, fairer and more accurate. Whether the transition succeeds fully will become clearer after this year’s results and feedback.

For now, students continue to wait for one of the most important announcements of their academic lives.

Students should keep their roll number, admit card ID and DigiLocker account ready while regularly checking the official CBSE websites for updates.
