Despite Ammunition Shortage, Pakistan Fires at LoC – India Responds with Precision

Indian Army retaliates strongly after unprovoked firing in multiple J&K sectors; Pakistan’s arms crisis deepens amid controversial weapons exports

4 May 2025, New Delhi

Despite grappling with a severe shortage of weapons and ammunition, Pakistan continues to provoke along the Line of Control (LoC), drawing a swift and firm response from the Indian Army. On the intervening night of May 3 and 4, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing in several border areas of Jammu and Kashmir using small arms.

According to official military sources, the Pakistani side opened fire from forward posts targeting Indian positions in Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Nowshera, Mendhar, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors. In a measured but effective retaliation, the Indian Army responded with pinpoint accuracy, silencing the hostile posts.

Pakistan’s Ammunition Crisis Exposed

Intelligence inputs reveal that Pakistan is currently enduring a major defence crisis, especially in terms of artillery ammunition. Its stockpile is reportedly so depleted that it would be unable to sustain a full-scale war beyond four days.

This dire situation is believed to be self-inflicted. In recent months, Pakistan has exported a significant volume of arms and ammunition to Ukraine, capitalizing on the Russia-Ukraine conflict to ease economic stress. In a surprising move, intelligence reports also indicate weapons shipments to Israel, raising questions over Islamabad’s diplomatic neutrality and military preparedness.

LoC Escalation Linked to Pahalgam Attack

The recent spike in cross-border firing follows the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 tourists lost their lives. Since then, ceasefire violations by Pakistan have become increasingly frequent, viewed by analysts as an attempt to escalate tensions and divert attention from internal crises.

U.S. Extends Support to India

Amid rising tensions, the United States has reaffirmed its support for India’s right to self-defence. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated, “The United States stands firmly with India in its fight against terrorism and fully supports its right to defend its sovereignty.”

With Pakistan’s military under pressure and the Indian Army maintaining strict operational readiness, tensions along the LoC remain high. However, Indian defence forces continue to prioritize restraint, strategic accuracy, and civilian safety in their responses.
