Temperatures expected to touch 45°C in coming days; public advised to take heat precautions

9 June 2025, New Delhi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a yellow alert for the national capital as Delhi sizzled at 44°C on Monday. The alert comes with a warning that temperatures may climb even further up to 45°C over the next three days.

The city woke up to an already warm morning at 27.6°C, with rising humidity adding to residents’ discomfort. The IMD has advised people to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, keep themselves hydrated, and avoid prolonged sun exposure to prevent heat-related illnesses.

A yellow alert means that based on the current weather forecast we can anticipate “hot and humid” conditions for the next four days; health authorities have gone so far as to warn at risk populations – children, elderly and people with chronic illnesses – to be careful.

There are no signs of reprieve and authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and reminding people to stay safe and take precautions while Delhi suffers through this extreme heat wave.
