Wife held for plotting husband’s murder amid honeymoon trip in Meghalaya
Sonam Raghuvanshi is alleged to have orchestrated the murder of her husband Raja in a shocking turn of events; she surrendered to the UP police while Meghalaya authorities arrested three of her accomplices

In a deeply shocking incident, a newlywed woman from Indore, Sonam Raghuvanshi, has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. The couple had recently married and were vacationing in the scenic East Khasi Hills when the incident occurred.
According to the Meghalaya Police, the case initially appeared to be a missing person report but quickly took a grim turn. Raja’s body was later found in a deep gorge, confirming suspicions of foul play. Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang revealed that Sonam had conspired with at least three accomplices to execute the murder.
Investigators believe the crime was premeditated and took place during a trek in a remote area. “The accused were identified and arrested through coordinated raids,” said DGP Nongrang. Authorities suspect Sonam had been in contact with contract killers prior to the trip.
Following the murder, Sonam fled to Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, her hometown, where she reportedly walked into a local police station and surrendered. Before doing so, she asked a food stall vendor for a phone to inform her family, officials confirmed.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to handle the high-profile case. The arrested individuals, including Sonam, face charges under Sections 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Digital and forensic evidence is currently being examined to establish the motive and timeline.
Preliminary reports hint at a possible extra-marital affair, which could have prompted the conspiracy. However, officials have yet to confirm this. Investigations are ongoing, and further revelations are expected in the coming days.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage and disbelief across the country, as what was meant to be a romantic getaway turned into a calculated act of violence. Police are continuing their interrogation of all accused parties.
