South Korea has unveiled a new Top-Tier Visa (F-2) for recruiting high-end foreign talent in strategic sectors such as semiconductors, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence. From April 2025, the visa provides a straight route to permanent residence after three years, plus tax benefits and accelerated immigration privileges.
Most Important Eligibility Requirements
– Master’s or PhD from a top 100 world university.
– 8 years of work experience, including 3 years with a Fortune 500 company.
– Minimum KRW 149.8 million annual salary.
– No education/work experience requirement for earners of KRW 199.8 million.
Advantages:
– 19% flat tax rate (as compared to 6-45% for residents).
– Spouse & dependents not subject to restriction of work.
– VIP immigration treatment and accommodation assistance.
Why It Matters?
South Korea is facing a shrinking workforce and has to increase innovation with the inducting of foreign talent. The move is in line with policies in other countries, including the US, Japan, and Singapore.
For Indian professionals, this provides a lucrative opportunity, especially in the tech and R&D sectors. Applications can be made online via South Korea’s Immigration Portal.
