Indian Radiologist Dr Raghav Aggarwal Earns IOC Sports Medicine Diploma

New Delhi: New Delhi-based senior radiologist Dr Raghav Aggarwal has completed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Programme in Sports Medicine and received the IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine in Lausanne in 2026.

Dr Aggarwal holds MBBS, MD (Radiodiagnosis) and FICRI qualifications and has more than two decades of experience in radiology. His clinical expertise focuses on musculoskeletal and sports ultrasound, ultrasound-guided procedures, and the diagnosis of conditions involving muscles, joints, tendons and nerves.

His work covers sports injuries, arthritis, inflammatory conditions, nerve disorders and myofascial pain. His additional training in sports medicine strengthens his ability to combine advanced imaging with athlete-focused clinical assessment.

The IOC Sports Medicine training can support more structured decisions around injury diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and an athlete’s safe return to training and competition. For athletes in India, this expertise can help improve injury assessment and recovery monitoring through locally available musculoskeletal imaging services.

According to Dr Aggarwal, the programme has expanded his understanding of sports injuries and rehabilitation.

“Sports medicine brings together accurate diagnosis, timely treatment and a clear understanding of an athlete’s needs,” Dr Aggarwal said. “Completing the IOC Diploma has further strengthened my knowledge of sports-related injuries and rehabilitation.”

Two-Year IOC Sports Medicine Programme

The IOC Diploma is a two-year postgraduate programme that involves around 800 hours of learning, teaching, assessment and practical training. The curriculum covers sports injuries, athlete assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return-to-sport decisions.

Dr Aggarwal has also contributed to medical education. At the Dr M. L. Aggarwal Imaging Centre in New Delhi, he leads a four- to six-month fellowship programme for doctors. The programme includes practical training in ultrasound scanning, imaging interpretation, ultrasound-MRI correlation and image-guided procedures.

Leadership in Radiology

Dr Aggarwal served as President of the Delhi State Chapter of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) during 2025–2026. He has also held other positions within the association and served on the Governing Body of the Indian College of Radiology and Imaging.

In 2026, he became National Coordinator of IRIA’s Preventive Radiology Committee. The committee focuses on the role of imaging in early detection, screening, risk assessment, research and public awareness.

International Academic Work

Dr Aggarwal has participated in international radiology conferences as a speaker, faculty member and course director. In 2026, he spoke at the 24th Asian Oceanian Congress of Radiology in Singapore on shear-wave elastography and ultrasound applications in sports injuries.

He also served as Course Director, Moderator and Faculty at the annual conference of the Asian Musculoskeletal Society in Ahmedabad.

His academic qualifications include an Expert Diploma in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound from Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, Spain. He has also undertaken musculoskeletal ultrasound training through EULAR and completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.
