New Delhi, 12 May 2026

The Bharat Climate Satyagraha Yatra, led by former IIT Bombay, professor, and a climate action leader Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, will begin tomorrow, 13 May 2026, from Rajghat in New Delhi with a prayer ceremony marking the start of a nationwide climate action movement.

Organised under the banner of the Energy Swaraj Foundation, the 100-day yatra aims to transform climate awareness into collective public action by encouraging citizens to adopt practical and measurable lifestyle changes. Over the next 100 days, the yatra will travel nearly 5,800 kilometres across 51 cities along India’s Golden Quadrilateral route connecting Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai.

While the yatra will physically travel through the Golden Quadrilateral cities, the Climate Satyagraha campaign itself will take place across the country through local volunteer-led activities and citizen participation in regions beyond the route, including the North East, Jammu & Kashmir, and several other non-quadrilateral regions.

Widely known as the “Solar Man of India,” Prof. Solanki has been advocating sustainable living and climate responsibility through behavioural change campaigns across the country. The Bharat Climate Satyagraha Yatra is rooted in the idea that climate change cannot be addressed through policy discussions alone and requires participation at the individual and community level.

The movement highlights a growing global concern that humanity is currently consuming natural resources at a rate equivalent to 1.8 Earths, despite having only one planet. Through the concept of “Finite Living,” the campaign encourages people to reduce unnecessary consumption and make environmentally responsible choices in their everyday lives.

The initiative seeks to mobilise around 10 lakh people to take the Finite Living Pledge, starting with a simple and practical step of not buying new clothes for one year. In addition, it aims to build local climate action groups in different cities and enable citizens to track their environmental impact through a digital platform. The emphasis is on actions that are simple, practical, and require no additional cost, making climate action accessible to everyone.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Prof. Solanki said, “Climate change is no longer a future concern; it is a present reality affecting every section of society. This yatra is an appeal to citizens to become active participants in climate correction through simple actions in their daily lives.”

Prof. Solanki has invited citizens, educational institutions, community groups, and civil society organisations to participate in the yatra events in their respective regions and contribute to building a nationwide climate action movement.

Climate Satyagraha is an insistence on living within the Earth’s limits. The campaign focuses on reducing unnecessary consumption and promoting sustainable lifestyles as a direct response to the climate crisis.
