Vaibhav Suryavanshi: At 15 his witty responses in Interviews show maturity beyond his age

At just 15, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s journey from Bihar’s Tajpur village to the IPL and U19 World Cup stands out.

New Delhi: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, born in Tajpur village in Samastipur district, Bihar, is celebrating his birthday today.

While most teenagers focus on exams and weekend plans, Vaibhav has already faced world-class bowlers in the Premier League. He has broken multiple records and represented India on the international stage.

His journey from a village to the biggest stages of cricket stands among the most compelling stories in Indian sports today.

Innings 1: Age 4 – The Backyard Awakening

Vaibhav Suryavanshi started playing cricket when he was four years old. His father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi who’s a farmer and had dreams of playing cricket himself made a small practice net behind their house and arranged for local bowlers to throw balls at Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Those early practice sessions, which were held with equipment under the open sky of Bihar laid the foundation for what was to come for Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Innings 2: Age 9 – The Academy Chapter

When Vaibhav Suryavanshi was nine years old he joined a cricket academy at Patel Maidan in Samastipur. His family had to make a lot of sacrifices for this. His father sold some of his farmland to pay for Vaibhav Suryavanshis training and travel expenses and his mother woke up early every day to cook meals for Vaibhav Suryavanshi so that he could focus on cricket.

This investment paid off soon. At the age of 12 years and 284 days Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his first-class debut for Bihar against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy becoming one of the players to play in senior domestic cricket in India.

Innings 3: Age 12 – The Ranji Trophy Debut

At the age of 12 years and 284 days Vaibhav Suryavanshi played his big match for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy against Mumbai. He was one of the players to play in a top-level domestic cricket match. While his friends were still in school Vaibhav Suryavanshi was on the field facing bowlers and showing calmness. Vaibhav Suryavanshi proved that he has the talent to play at a level.

Innings 4: Age 14 – The IPL Fireworks and U19 Glory

At 13, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.1 crore at the IPL auction, becoming the youngest player in league history.

In April 2025, at 14 years and 23 days, he made his IPL debut. It was the youngest debut in the tournament’s history, and he hit a six off the very first ball he faced.

A days later Vaibhav Suryavanshi played one of the most amazing innings in the Indian Premier League. Against the Gujarat Titans team he scored 101 runs in 38 balls reaching his century in 35 deliveries, which was the fastest hundred by any player in mens Twenty20 cricket at that time and one of the fastest in Indian Premier League history. He finished the 2025 season with 252 runs at a strike rate of than 206.

In 2026 Vaibhav Suryavanshi took his good form to the Under-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe. He scored 439 runs throughout the tournament. His best performance came in the final against England.

Maturity Beyond His Years

What has grabbed attention beyond Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s cricket statistics is his behavior off the field. Notably, at a press conference before the 2026 Indian Premier League, a journalist asked about his personal run targets and the Orange Cap. In response, Vaibhav joked, “If you ask such questions, I will just say 2–3 thousand runs.”

As a result, the room filled with laughter. However, he quickly followed it with a thoughtful answer, explaining that players cannot plan individual targets in advance. Instead, he emphasized focusing on the team’s performance and trusting the process.

Meanwhile, despite sharing a dressing room with players like Sanju Samson, Vaibhav remains deeply connected to his roots in Bihar. For instance, he calls his parents every day and consistently credits his father’s sacrifices for his cricket journey.
