Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships 2025–26 Held at JLN Stadium, 110 Athletes Compete

Divyang Para Sports Association of Delhi organises state-level para powerlifting championship to promote competitive excellence and provide structured exposure to athletes across senior and junior categories.

The Divyang Para Sports Association of Delhi (DPSA) successfully organised the Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships 2025–26 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, on Saturday. The one-day championship featured the 3rd Senior and 2nd Junior and Sub-Junior state competitions, with participation from 110 para-athletes representing multiple districts of the national capital.

Recognised by the Government of Delhi and affiliated with the Paralympic Committee of India, DPSA conducted the championship with the objective of strengthening the para powerlifting ecosystem in Delhi and offering athletes a structured competitive platform ahead of national-level events.

The championship was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Arvind Menon, National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who attended as the chief guest, along with Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police.

Addressing the athletes and officials, Dr. Menon emphasised that discipline, consistency and perseverance are the foundations of sporting excellence. He praised para-athletes for turning challenges into strength and said national initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India have helped create equal opportunities for athletes from all sections of society to excel and represent the country with pride.

Special Commissioner Devesh Shrivastava congratulated the participants on their performance, lauding their determination and commitment. He encouraged them to aim for higher achievements and bring recognition to the nation at national and international competitions.

The event witnessed closely fought contests across senior women’s, senior men’s, and junior and sub-junior men’s categories, with athletes displaying remarkable strength and competitive spirit. Winners were declared across multiple weight categories, highlighting the growing depth of para powerlifting talent in Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, DPSA President Parul Singh said the championship reflects the association’s dedication to providing a fair, transparent and athlete-focused environment for para sports in the capital. She added that regular state-level competitions are essential for identifying emerging talent and ensuring the long-term development of para-athletes.
