Jalandhar:In a shocking incident, attackers shot dead Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi in a daylight attack outside a Gurdwara in Model Town, Jalandhar, on Friday morning. Videos of the killing quickly spread on social media, intensifying public outrage and raising serious questions about law and order in Punjab under the AAP-led government.
The Fatal Attack
According to reports, attackers fired between 5 and 13 bullets at Lucky Oberoi. The attackers carried out the shooting between 7:50 AM and 9:30 AM. Oberoi was sitting inside or about to enter his black Thar SUV outside Gurdwara Sahib in Model Town, a well-known and upscale area of Jalandhar. He had just completed his morning prayers (arati). At that moment, two unidentified attackers arrived on a motorcycle, scooter, or bike and opened fire, hitting him in the chest and head.
People rushed Oberoi to a private hospital immediately, but he later died from his injuries. Videos from the scene show his vehicle with broken windows, bullet holes, and visible bloodstains.
Victim’s Profile
Lucky Oberoi served as a local leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and actively took part in party work in Jalandhar. According to available information, he had not reported receiving any threats before the incident. He was following his regular routine of visiting the Gurdwara when the attack occurred.
Police Investigation and Initial Findings
The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have started a full investigation into the case and have launched a search operation to track down the attackers. Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas. Early findings suggest that personal enmity may have motivated the murder, and investigators have not found any immediate links to political rivalry or gang activity. As of the latest update, police have not made any arrests.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann strongly condemned the killing and has instructed the police to take strict action and ensure quick justice. Meanwhile, opposition parties such as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal have blamed the AAP government, accusing it of failing to maintain law and order in the state.
