Police find body of unidentified youth in Sherpur inside a blue drum with neck and feet tied; suspect foul play
27 June 2025, New Delhi
A horrifying case has gripped Ludhiana after police recovered the decomposed body of an unidentified man from a blue plastic drum near the Sherpur Bypass on Wednesday. The disturbing discovery has alarmed residents and drawn immediate comparisons to a similar murder recently reported in Meerut.
Police officials reported that someone had abandoned the sealed drum by the roadside. Locals noticed a strong, foul odor coming from the container and alerted authorities. Upon opening it, police found the body wrapped in cloth, with the neck and feet bound tightly with rope, indicating an attempt to conceal a possible murder.
Investigators believe the murder occurred several days earlier. Since the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition, the police ordered a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Officers did not find any identification documents at the scene. They are now reviewing missing person reports from Ludhiana and nearby districts to identify the victim.

To trace the source of the drum, police have questioned over 40 local manufacturers and plastic suppliers. Investigators have also begun examining CCTV footage from nearby roads, bus terminals, and railway stations to identify clues about who transported or disposed of the drum.
The murder closely resembles the Meerut blue drum case, prompting suspicions of a connection or possible copycat crime. Although police have not confirmed any direct link yet, they have expanded the investigation to cover all possible angles.
This gruesome incident has left the community in shock. Police have registered a case of murder and assured the public that they will pursue every lead until the case is solved. Authorities expect more clarity once they receive the postmortem and forensic reports.
