Rare Public Darshan Held Before Deities Enter Anasara; Rath Yatra to Begin on June 27 and Culminate on July 5

Puri, Odisha: June 11, 2025

The sacred festival of Snana Purnima was observed with great devotion in Puri today, marking the ceremonial beginning of the Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025. The Jagannath Temple was overflowing with devotees coming to celebrate the traditional Snana Yatra in which Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra were ceremonially bathed with 108 pots of water from the temple’s golden well.

Unique Vision Before Anasara Phase

Meanwhile, Snana Purnima provides the only public darshan of the three deities presented together on the Snana Mandap (bathing platform). After they finish their ceremonial bath, the three deities will start the Anasara, or rest phase, for 15 days. When the deities return, they will emerge after a period of time without public progression, as the deities are withdrawn from the outer world of public worship to recover for the ritual bathing.

Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 Important Dates

As previously reported, the Jagannath Rath Yatra will begin on June 27 when the deities are ceremonially transported from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple during the parade using unbelievably large and richly decorated chariots. The nine-day journey will conclude with the Bahuda Yatra (return journey) on July 5 when the deities will be clothied once again in the Suna Besha, in golden regalia.

Major Influx of Devotees Expected

Lakhs of devotees from all of India and other parts of the world are expected to visit Puri for the massive Rath Yatra celebration, the largest and oldest religious processions in the world.
