Ex-DGP Om Prakash Murdered at Home; Wife Suspected Over Property Dispute

Police say Pallavi, the wife of the retired IPS officer, allegedly attacked him with chili powder and a knife after a heated argument over property; the daughter was also questioned.

Meet Pallavi, the wife of the recently murdered Ex-Karnataka DGP Om Prakash, who is now the prime suspect in the murder of her husband. The retired cop was discovered deceased on Tuesday at his Bengaluru home. According to sources, the couple had a dispute over a property matter, which escalated into a violent confrontation.

Police sources revealed that during the argument, Pallavi allegedly threw chili powder at Om Prakash, tied him up, and then stabbed him multiple times. It also involved the use of a glass bottle. The 68-year-old officer was stabbed several times in the chest and abdomen.

After committing the crime, Pallavi reportedly called the wife of another police officer and confessed to the murder. Acting on this information, the police were alerted around 4 am. Upon reaching the spot, the police detained Pallavi and her daughter for questioning, which continued for nearly 12 hours. Investigators are also looking into the possible involvement of their daughter in the crime.

Sources suggest that the motive behind the murder may be a recent property transfer by Om Prakash to a relative, which had angered Pallavi. This disagreement is believed to have triggered the fatal incident.

A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by Om Prakash’s son.

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated, “Retired DGP Om Prakash has been assassinated. Preliminary information suggests that his wife may have committed the crime, but the investigation will confirm the facts.He collaborated with me during my previous term as Home Minister in 2015. He was a terrific officer and a decent person. This is truly a tragic incident.”

In March 2015 he was made the Director General of Police for Karnataka. He was also head of Fire and Emergency Services and Home Guards. Om Prakash (BEd) is a master in geology and hails from Bihar.
