Patna: In a significant step towards realizing the vision of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar and Industries Minister Shri Nitish Mishra, IMC Gaya, a flagship greenfield industrial smart city project under the Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), has received Environmental Clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India, for a 1,670-acre area.
Spearheaded by Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Ltd. (BIMCGL)—a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed between the Government of India and the Government of Bihar—this statutory approval marks a significant milestone in transforming Bihar into a major industrial growth hub.
Under the visionary leadership of both governments, IMC Gaya is poised to become a beacon of industrial progress in Eastern India. The project aims to seamlessly blend economic opportunity with sustainability, transforming the region into a vibrant center of innovation, enterprise, and inclusive growth. Bodh Gaya will be home to Bihar’s first integrated industrial township—setting a model for long-term economic and industrial development.
The grant of Environmental Clearance on March 18, 2025, under the ‘Industrial Area’ category, is a landmark achievement. Secured within an expedited seven-month timeline, this clearance allows upcoming industrial units at IMC Gaya to bypass the need for separate public hearings—a typically time-consuming process. This acceleration in approvals is expected to boost investor confidence, increase project visibility, and attract significant private sector investment, thereby speeding up implementation.
As a pilot project jointly developed by the Governments of India and Bihar, IMC Gaya is being developed under the flagship AKIC initiative, a national mission to unlock the industrial potential of Eastern India. The township will benefit from its connection to the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), enhancing regional industrial capacities and offering world-class infrastructure.
With over 1,000 acres dedicated to industrial plots, IMC Gaya will include multimodal connectivity, reliable power and water supply, drainage, and logistics facilities. The project is being executed by BIMCGL, an SPV formed by NICDIT and BIADA, with strong support from both central and state authorities.

In a significant development, a joint site visit was recently conducted to assess the proposed water storage site and pipeline alignment, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the township’s water infrastructure. The focus was on evaluating water availability and its integration into the overall township layout.
Key stakeholders in the visit included the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA), Water Resources Department, National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee, Forest Department, and Gaya District Administration.
This visit followed an earlier assessment of external road connectivity, reaffirming the project’s commitment to integrated and coordinated planning for a seamless industrial ecosystem.
