The manager who passed away, Shiv Shankar Mitra, had quit days before the incident, citing stress at work and health issues.

The 52-year-old chief manager of Bank of Baroda’s Baramati branch in the Pune area, Shiv Shankar Mitra, committed suicide on the bank’s grounds on Thursday evening. Mitra, who was originally from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, is said to have committed himself as a result of extreme stress at work.
A team from Pune Rural Police’s Baramati City Police Station hurried to the scene after learning of the incident. In a suicide note that was found, Mitra claimed that his drastic action was due to “bank work pressure.” A postmortem was performed on his body.
According to Inspector Vilas Nale, Mitra resigned on July 11, 2025, claiming health concerns and work-related stress. The bank has provided us with a copy of his letter of resignation. In his suicide letter, Mitra did not blame any bank employees, Inspector Nale continued. “He made it quite evident that he was taking this action due to stress at work. Further investigation is underway, and an accidental death report (ADR) has been filed in accordance with protocol.
Despite Mitra’s resignation, the police claim that the bank had not yet released him from his responsibilities because he was still fulfilling his 90-day notice period. Whether any particular officials were involved in the purported work pressure is currently being investigated by authorities. Mitra praised the work of all bank workers in his statement, but he also cautioned against putting personnel under unnecessary strain. In an emotional statement to his family, he also apologized to his wife and kid and asked if it would be possible to donate his eyes.Concerns regarding the mental health of workers who are overworked and work-related stress in the banking industry have been brought up by the sad event.
