Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Tamil Nadu Visit Sparks Controversy Amid Allegations of Mocking Tamil Language and People
9 June 2025, New Delhi
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is under fire after a video surfaced showing the party’s election campaign in Odisha allegedly mocking Tamils through racist and derogatory language. The video, which has gone viral on social media, depicts BJP campaigners using offensive stereotypes to ridicule Tamil people in an apparent attempt to influence voters in Odisha.
This controversy has drawn sharp criticism from political leaders and activists across Tamil Nadu, who condemned the BJP for promoting divisive politics and disrespecting Tamil culture and language. The Tamil Nadu populace has expressed strong resentment against the BJP, accusing it of using racial mockery as an electoral strategy.

In a related development, Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to Tamil Nadu has added fuel to the fire. Reports indicate that Shah expressed concern over his inability to speak Tamil fluently during his visit. This has been viewed by some as a display of insensitivity, especially after the party’s controversial campaign targeting Tamils in Odisha.
Political analysts suggest that these events have adversely affected the BJP’s image in Tamil Nadu, where language and cultural pride hold immense significance. Opposition parties have called upon the BJP to apologize and reconsider its approach toward regional communities.
The BJP, however, has not yet issued an official statement addressing the allegations of racism or the criticism arising from Shah’s remarks.
