81 elite guests detained in Ahmedabad! Silver jubilee party busted in Sanand with foreign liquor, 10 hookahs & 22 luxury cars worth ₹2.91 crore seized.
New Delhi: Sanand police raided a high-profile silver jubilee celebration at a weekend bungalow near Ahmedabad on Wednesday night, detaining 81 people and seizing prohibited liquor, hookah items, luxury vehicles, and mobile phones worth ₹2.91 crore. The event violated Gujarat’s strict prohibition laws in a state where alcohol remains banned.
Silver Jubilee Celebration Turns Into Police Raid
A Mumbai-based couple organized the party to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary (silver jubilee). The event featured elaborate arrangements. These included food counters, cake setups, multiple tables with hookah, and servings of foreign liquor. None of these had legal permits.
Organiser and Venue Details
Amit Gopilal Pacheriwal, 49, a resident of Jayant Mahal, D Road, Marine Drive (opposite Wankhede Stadium), Mumbai, arranged the event.
He hosted the event for his brother-in-law, Adarsh Agrawal (also referred to as Adarsh Agarwal). He invited friends, acquaintances, and professionals. The venue was Plot No. 200 at Safal Nirvana Greens. It is a weekend home project near Goras village on the Sanand–Nalsarovar Road. The location falls under the Sanand Police Station jurisdiction in Ahmedabad Rural district.
Elite Guest List and Scale of the Party
Authorities detained a total of 81 individuals—43 men and 38 women—mostly aged 35–45. Attendees included prominent builders, traders, doctors, business professionals, and scions of wealthy families from Ahmedabad and other cities, highlighting the event’s elite status.
Dramatic Late-Night Police Operation
Acting on a credible tip-off, Sanand police conducted a late-night raid while the party was in full swing. Several guests tried to flee, causing chaos, but authorities detained all 81 on site. A senior police officer stated: “Based on credible information, our team conducted a raid and found a liquor party in full swing. Several guests attempted to flee, creating chaos at the spot, but authorities detained them.”
Medical Tests and Gender-Based Handling
Authorities took 43 detained men to a government hospital in Sanand for medical tests to confirm liquor consumption, while they issued legal notices to 38 women and released them after preliminary verification.
Seized Items: Liquor, Hookah, and Luxury Assets
• Liquor: Eight sealed foreign liquor bottles (₹43,550), seven partially filled bottles, three empty bottles, and 70 drinking glasses.
• Hookah: 10 hookahs, eight packets of flavors, and 33 plastic containers of hookah flavors.
• Other valuables: 74 mobile phones worth ₹26.30 lakh.
• Vehicles: 22 luxury four-wheelers (including BMW and Audi models) valued at ₹2.65 crore, with more than 20 high-end cars parked at the venue. Total seized assets value: ₹2.91 crore—all items remain in police custody.
Legal Violations Under Gujarat Prohibition Act
The gathering breached Gujarat’s prohibition laws, which strictly ban the possession, serving, and consumption of alcohol without permits. Hookah setups also raised concerns under local regulations. Authorities did not report or seize any drugs.
Ongoing Investigation and Police Stance
Sanand police are preparing formal charges under the Gujarat Prohibition Act. The probe focuses on the source of prohibited items, event organization, and attendee verification. Authorities emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward illegal gatherings, especially in rural and weekend-home areas around Ahmedabad where such private parties have been rising.
Broader Context of Liquor Raids in Gujarat
This bust follows a pattern of enforcement in Gujarat’s dry state, with similar raids at farmhouses, resorts, and private venues in areas like Sanand and Shilaj. The incident underscores ongoing challenges in curbing underground elite parties despite strict laws.
