Due to a multi-crore scam, Mumbai Police have put Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty on lookout notice. The well-known pair has been charged with defrauding businessman Deepak Kothari of around ₹60 crore in a transaction involving their now-defunct television home-shopping business, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. According to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), the case dates back to 2015, when Kothari alleged that the couple persuaded him to invest in their business with promises of expansion and assured returns. He claimed that the money, taken under the pretext of business development, was instead diverted for personal expenses. The investment was initially represented as a loan but was later shown as an equity investment, allegedly to gain tax benefits. Kothari further stated that the couple had assured repayment within a stipulated period along with 12% annual interest. He even received a written personal guarantee from Shilpa Shetty in April 2016. However, soon after, she resigned as a director of the company.

Complicating matters further, Kothari alleged that he later discovered an insolvency case of ₹1.28 crore was already pending against the firm, a fact that was never disclosed to him at the time of investment. This revelation, he said, confirmed his suspicion that he had been misled.

The EOW is now scrutinising the couple’s travel records and has also summoned the company’s auditor for questioning. Investigators are probing whether funds were misappropriated and whether there was a deliberate attempt to conceal the financial liabilities of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. The celebrity duo has categorically denied wrongdoing, labelling the allegations as fabricated and intended to smear their reputation.
