Madhepura DM Hails Ramganj Honeybee Project as North Bihar’s Emerging Model; Applauds Ramalaya Foundation and CSIR–NBRI for Scientific Impact

During his field visit, DM Taranjot Singh termed the Ramganj initiative a major step toward creating a scientific honey production belt and biodiversity hub in North Bihar.

Madhepura District Magistrate Shri Taranjot Singh, IAS, conducted an on-site review of the Scientific Honey Bee Management and Biodiversity Restoration Project in Ramganj village, Kumarkhand Block. He described the initiative as a game-changing model for promoting scientific honey production and ecological revival across North Bihar.

Praise for Ramalaya Foundation and its Community Efforts

The DM applauded Ramalaya Foundation and its social enterprise Earth & Forest for introducing scientific livelihood practices and ecological awareness at the grassroots level.
He appreciated Prashant Kumar’s leadership, particularly his Ramya initiative, which aims to reconnect communities with nature and strengthen rural development.

Acknowledgment of CSIR–NBRI’s Scientific Leadership

Shri Singh also acknowledged the scientific support provided by CSIR–NBRI/NBRL Lucknow under the CSIR Floriculture Mission Phase-II.
He praised Principal Scientists Dr. Bikarma Singh and Dr. Sushil Kumar for guiding the project with expert training in vegetation planning, pollination ecology and scientific honeybee management.

DM’s On-Ground Assessment

During his field visit, the District Magistrate:
• Interacted with farmers and handed over training certificates
• Engaged with villagers to understand local progress
• Examined honeybee box installations and biodiversity plots
• Encouraged adoption of scientific and sustainable practices for long-term income generation

He emphasized that scientific agriculture and ecological restoration can significantly enhance rural livelihoods.

Full Departmental Cooperation Ensured

The DM directed Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest, KVK, Jeevika, Block and District Administration to work in coordination for the smooth execution of the project.
He instructed all departments to extend complete support to Ramalaya Foundation and CSIR–NBRI to ensure the project achieves its intended impact.

DM’s Vision for North Bihar

Shri Taranjot Singh stated that Ramganj has the potential to become a leading scientific honey production cluster and a major biodiversity model for North Bihar. He assured full administrative backing to scale the initiative further.

About the Project

The initiative is being implemented by Ramalaya Foundation through its Earth & Forest vertical, in collaboration with CSIR–NBRI.
The project currently involves:

  • Training 40 farmers in scientific honeybee management
  • Developing 200 scientific honeybee boxes
  • Establishing a biodiversity restoration model to strengthen local ecology
