Forensic Analysis Reveals “I Killed My Wife For You” Message
A shocking case has emerged from Bengaluru where Dr. Mahendra Reddy, a 32-year-old general surgeon, has been arrested for the meticulously planned murder of his wife, Dr. Kruthika Reddy, a dermatologist. The crime, executed using his medical expertise, went undetected for six months until a forensic investigation exposed the truth.
A Chilling Confession Via Digital App
Investigators made a critical breakthrough following the forensic analysis of Mahendra Reddy’s mobile phone. The examination unearthed a deeply disturbing message he sent shortly after the crime: “I killed my wife for you.” This chilling confession was sent to a woman with whom the surgeon was reportedly having a relationship, communicated via the note section of a digital payment application after she had blocked him on other platforms. Police have questioned the woman and recorded her statement, but have clarified that she had no role in the murder. Further inquiries revealed that the accused had sent this message to at least four to five other women in a desperate bid to rekindle old relationships and propose marriage following his wife’s death.
The Motives Behind the Murder
The marriage between the two doctors, which took place on May 26, 2024, reportedly deteriorated rapidly. Police investigations point to multiple alleged motives behind the surgeon’s decision to murder his wife:
- Concealed Health Issues: Mahendra allegedly became enraged after discovering that Kruthika was suffering from long-standing gastric and metabolic disorders—information he claimed had been concealed from him before the marriage.
- Financial Demands: Kruthika’s family also alleged that Mahendra frequently demanded money, pressuring them to fund the construction of a private hospital for him. They stated that he began neglecting Kruthika after they were unable to meet his financial demands.
- Extramarital Affairs: The investigation also uncovered his attempt to reconnect with multiple women, indicating a possible desire to be free of his marriage to pursue other relationships.
Meticulously Planned Medical Murder
The accused general surgeon allegedly used his extensive medical knowledge to plan and execute the murder, aiming to make his wife’s death appear natural. Police stated that he “knew her medical vulnerabilities and used his professional knowledge to exploit them.” The evidence showed a “deliberate and precise use of anaesthetic drugs,” according to Whitefield DCP M. Parashuram.
The tragic events unfolded in April 2025. Kruthika was staying at her father’s house in Marathahalli due to illness and fatigue. Mahendra visited her under the pretense of providing medical care. Over two days, he administered intravenous (IV) injections containing a fatal dose of anaesthetic agents—later confirmed by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to be Propofol, a powerful drug restricted to operation theatre use. Kruthika fell unconscious on April 23, 2025, and was declared “brought dead” at a private hospital.
Sister’s Suspicion Leads to Breakthrough
Kruthika’s family initially accepted that she had died of natural causes. However, her sister, Dr. Nikitha Reddy, a radiologist, insisted on finding the true cause of death, raising suspicions about the circumstances. Her insistence led to the police filing an Unnatural Death Report (UDR). The subsequent FSL report was the definitive proof, confirming that Kruthika had died from respiratory failure caused by anaesthetic substances, a clear sign of homicide.
Following the forensic confirmation, the case was reclassified as murder, and Mahendra Reddy was arrested six months after the crime. The surgeon had attempted to portray the death as a result of Kruthika’s existing health issues, but the recovery of medical evidence, including IV equipment, and the FSL report, ultimately exposed his cold-blooded act.
