Legendary Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman recently took to Instagram to pen a heartfelt tribute to the late Shashi Kapoor, reminiscing about her schoolgirl crush on the iconic actor and reflecting on the cherished moments they shared on and off the screen.
Sharing a nostalgic clip from their 1978 film Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Zeenat opened up about the deep admiration she held for Kapoor since her school days. “I was enamored by his sparkling eyes and magnetic personality,” she wrote, revealing that her first interaction with the actor took place at her boarding school in Panchgani. At the time, Kapoor had visited with his theatre company alongside his future wife, Jennifer.
“The entire student body was in awe,” Zeenat recalled. “Shashi Kapoor was that one actor every girl had a crush on.”
The Teenage Fangirl in South Bombay
Zeenat didn’t stop there. She shared an amusing anecdote from her teenage years, when Kapoor lived nearby in South Bombay. “Word spread quickly that he went for a walk every evening at 6 PM,” she wrote. “And soon, my friends and I started stepping out for some ‘fresh air’—hoping to catch a glimpse of him.”
Dream Come True on the Silver Screen
Years later, fate brought Zeenat face-to-face with her crush—not as a fan, but as a co-star. “It was a dream come true,” she said, describing Kapoor as “witty, charming, and sharp.” She fondly remembered working alongside him in films like Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Chori Mera Kaam, and Vakil Babu, calling it a privilege.
The Scene That Sparked Controversy
Zeenat also addressed the much-discussed kiss scene in Satyam Shivam Sundaram, which stirred controversy at the time. “That moment was monumental in my career,” she stated. “Despite the noise around it, I never felt uncomfortable during the shoot. The scene, to me, was sacred.”

She also praised Kapoor’s enduring legacy, especially his contributions to Indian theatre. “He was a remarkable man. Watching the legacy of Prithvi Theatre thrive today fills my heart with pride.”
Zeenat Aman’s touching post serves as both a personal reflection and a celebration of Shashi Kapoor’s timeless charm—a sentiment that resonates with generations of cinema lovers.
